Question Cruise Control Problem

Recently bought a 2000 Tl and found out that the cruise control wasnt working. Green button lights up, cruise just wont engage. After taking off the plastic cover and following the cable around the engine I found that my wire had slipped out of the hole that wraps around the black plastic coil on the unit connected to the throttle body due to a cracked lip that holds the little nut on the reel. Any place that you guys know of that would or does sell just the black plastic spool/reel that houses the cable? Heard from some people that I will be told to buy a whole new throttle body, but that seems ridiculous. Ideas/help?

Word to others to clean and grease the spring throttle return mechanism

There were a few members that recenlty had the cable come out of the stop and come loose- I thought it was impossible, and so did Acura and many other car makers as this is a standard setup used for many years
I am totally guessing the cause to be grit-dirt- and lack of lubrication to be the culprit.
When you clean and lube the springs also undo the cables and shoot lube down them and work cable back and forth.
Reset the cable tension properly and enjoy smoother throttle response.

A pic of the problem here would help- the description does not match my memory of the setup- but years can vary
This does not apply to gen3 and the fly by wire throttle.

You could try looking for the part yourself using an online site, such as http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...ll&ListAll=All

alright, so i got my car back today, and they said that my cruise control computer was not getting enough voltage for it to engage, but the wires in there were dirty so they had to clean it up. thank god it only took 1 day for my car to be done.

do you have the cable operated throttle/cruise or fly-by-wire?
Now I have to go look my car over for an electrical connection for the cruise and clean it!

I have the cable throttle operator as well. But like I said before the plastic reel that spools the wire has a cracked lip on one of the rails or sides so the little nut keeps slipping out. Not sure how to fix that but I have been looking for a replacement reel. Would this problem affect the way my acceleration or the way the engine performs?

If the bushings for the shaft that operates the throttle butterfly plate have become worn and are leaking air-- that would be a problem. Would be odd, but things do happen.
Dont usually break any of the throttle mechanism either!
What year cars are you guys driving anyways?

Mine on the 01 appeared all metal for the part where the throttle actuator/return and spring assembly where the cables fit on-
On the cable end there is a barrel nut - you rotate the throttle assembly open so you can see the access hole on one side- for that barrel to fit into and lock then lay the cable in the slot on the mechanism

Actual pics would really help- if you dont have a camera ask anyone with a cell phone or the person sitting next to you at work or school will probably own a digital camera

About the only way your going to get that fixed is a new/used throttle body or go to a junk yard and hope they will let you take just the reel. Honda does not sell that separately. It shouldnt cause any ill effect to the throttle unless the cable binds and catches. You should take the cruise cable off till you get it fixed.

I have the same issue. Dealer says entire throttle body has to be purchased. $385.00
Junkyard Maybe $100 best case. I repaired mine. Only been two days now so longevity not measured.
I drilled a hole thru the rear side opposite a hole that already existed on the front side (of the black plastic part that has failed). I then used a 1 inch long piece of copper #14 solid (ground) wire from a piece of romex and put it thru the holes after placing the cable in its place. It held the cable in place and so far has caused no problems and has worked fine. This may not work for you, it depends on how the part has failed and what is left with which to work.
