My HEAT DOESN'T WORK!

lemme start by saying this is my first post on this forum i browsed around for a month or so and finally decided to join. i have a 02 tl-s with navi that i got around july 20th or so that i bought used with 49500miles on it.

well..it was a little cold here in nj the other day and i decided to turn my heater on, so i put the climate control to 90 and turn the fan onto like 3 and the A/C off.. about 5 minutes later..no heat. i was like wtf? so then i waited maybe i was like the heater hasn't been turned on forever maybe something is up with it lemme just let it run, well..turns out..still doesn't work! i made sure the A/C button wasn't on or anything..heat just does not want to work. so i tried messing with the temperature on the climate control..it doesn't do a god damn thing.. so basically my temperature is set to some constant temperature which i don't know what it is. if it's 60 or 90 it still blows a constant temperature out. i was wondering why during the summer my A/C felt like it wasn't that cold even with it blasted in hot 90degree weather.. i have no clue on what to do..the previous owner had gotten the whole A/C system redone because it wasn't working at all i can't exactly remember what he got done but i remember when i went to test drive it the A/C system didn't work at all.. not even the fan, he was in the process of redoing the whole thing. he took it to the dealer, and when i went for the second test drive after he said he was getting the car serviced everything seemed fine such as the a/c and all..

one more problem is that my power steering fluid seems the need to be refilled from the min line to max every 3weeks to a month or so because it starts making this nasty groaning sound..once i refill it the noise tends to go away.. it's weird, like theres a leak or something.

Heater problem

I had the same freakin problem and spent hours trying to figure it out myself. Here's what the problem was on my car. Right behind the engine, up against the firewall, I would say just about in the center of the firewall, you'll see a small pully lookin thing with cables on it. Well, it gets stuck sometimes and all it needs is a little lubrication on it. I guess its a pully system to engage your heater on, and when you turn your heater on it gets stuck sometimes. I put lubrication on it a year ago and its been working fine. Sometimes the biggest problem is always the littlest fix.

Sorry man its been a while since i've been on this site, but I just visually looked at it and its almost in the middle of the firewall, there are two big hoses going to them and theres only one cable wire on it that moves back and forth........lube it and have someone keep turning your heater on and off so it can break loose again, or just do it with your hand, you'll see the cable.

i found the valve..i put lubrication on it and it was hard as hell to even move.. after pulling on it really hard it got loose and i moved it to the middle where the heater is supposed to activate. but evenwith the valve in the middle still no heat comes on and it also doesn't moveby itself even though the valve is now loose.. any other suggestions? thanks

If it doesnt move back and forth by turning it on in your car then that should be the problem. Try moving it manually and have someone sit in the car to see if it works. But if its not that it could be your thermostat. But you said that you can manually move it back and forth but not electronically, so I would have someone sit inside and see if the heat does come on by manually moving it from the outside.

This should be made a sticky . Worked like a charm for me. The heater hadnt been working since i tried using it the past few days, I was contemplating taking it to the dealer but thought i should do a quick search here on the forum and whatdya know someone else ran into this issue as well and there was an easy fix . I guess with all the salt that our cars go through in the winter its not hard for that wire to get clogged with salt. I sprayed it with WD40 and let it rest for a few hours and after that manually loosened the valve and then checked the heater, upon turning it on and off it worked perfect. By the way when the heat is turned on the wire is extended to the fullest and when its off its retracted.

if it doesnt move after that then the motor that powers it may be bad.

Had the same problem as you a couple weeks ago. It was the Air Mix controller/servo motor. It had been clicking for 3 years and finally failed. Thus=no heat and only full air conditioning. It's located on the passenger's side of the heater assemble. Look up at the bottom of the heater assembly from the left side of the passengers side foot well. you will see a little control box that should move the Air Mix door when you raise and lower the Temp. on your heater. If it doesn't move and open the door that's the problem. $113.00 shipped for a new one. There are 3 screws (on the silver plate) that hold it up there and one wire assembly to remove. Very easy to replace if that's your problem. You can pull the carpet back for easier access. As Acuratech25 said/check this.

Hi All :

I've had a similar issue for year, no heat and will only blow cold air. I have been able to correct it buy turning the heat all the way up and then back to the desired temp. Could this be this seized wire/pulley thingy on the fire wall ?

Also, as others have said....a pic is worth a thousand words......

smartypants.
