Lost my only working key!

Do I need to go to the dealer, or is there a better, cheaper solution?

I still have the valet key, or whatever it is that doesn't actually start the car.

Thanks,
Dan

you lost just the key or the alarm pad too?

the valet key starts the car and opens the door but will not open the glovebox- where you have the extra trunk lock at.

Dealer is fastest way- because you can get on ebay - but they must be the exact right one and then be programmed at dealer

Bite it on one- then order a spare online with the info on transmitter

Thanks. I lost the key and the transmitter.

The other key I have opens the doors but will not start the car.

all keys for the car should start it. Even the valet. If you dont have a key that starts the car you will have to bring it to the dealer.

Why would you have to bring your title to the acura dealer to get a key cut? No, theres no such thing. What about those people who financed their cars? They don't have their titles.

All you need is your VIN and your dealer will cut a program a key for you. I work at one.

Also--the key he has currently is probably a key they cut, and did not program. As that is what they will do just to unlock your car doors when you lock your keys in your car-to cut costs.

I have the same problem, but I didnt lose my key, I wanna make a new one just in case i lose the only other one i have. and they are asking $120+ for the new cut key and the programming. but since s55lear you work at a dealership, can you tell me if I can get a uncut TL key with a chip of ebay, and for the steelership to program and cut that one? I think that would save me 50-60$.

does that dealership happen to be a honda/acura dealership. okay well ill just walk by your car write down the vin and have your key cut. then come back and steal your car. you have obviously never lost a key to a honda. at minimum they will ask for your insurance to know you are the owner. otherwise stealing cars would get a whole lot easier

You might be able to find the exact key on eBay, however, I am not positive. If its the exact same part number as the one at the dealer then buy it. But I can't give you an exact answer.

Yes I work at an Acura dealer. Im sure you could do that actually. They don't ask for proof of anything. People usually wont steal cars that way because they have to ask for your name and address to put into the system when cutting the key. So you give the VIN of the car you are stealing and your name and address then they have everything they need.

well this isnt the OEM part for sure since its another company making it but it says that it fits acura tl 99 and that its a transponder key, so I am thinking to take a chance and get it. man 120$ is too much for a key no matter what car.

check this key I found, hoping it will work. http://cgi.ebay.ca/1999-2003-Acura-T...QQcmdZViewItem

I think you need to go out to a dealer. They start in the 30s.
Also what about the ones that are used and can be had for the 20s. Should someone that can afford that be able to throw out 1k+ just to get their key?

i find that real hard to believe but ill take your word for it. here they ask for the title and ins. and if the car was stolen whats to say the police are gonna check at the dealership. either way maybe they should take more precautions when it comes to that.
