Just had transmission rebuilt.......
I have a 1999 acura tl that I just had to get the transmission rebuilt on for $1800
. Just wondering what are some things I can do to keep this transmission going for a long time. I get on it a few times a day. Asked the guy who rebuilt my transmission about a transmission cooler but he told me that the transmission had sufficient cooling. I have a 6 month warranty, which I dont want to risk voiding, so I want to know steps I could take after my warranty is up to make sure it doesnt fail again

change 3.4 qts of the atf (total capacity is 7.3) every year, thats about all you can do
honda dw1 fluid is their new stuff and is working well in gen2 so far
otherwise go exotic on redline atf mixed with redline racing atf

aka: You didn't get dicked over with that price. I had mine only rebuilt too & paid roughly $2k(have read of some paying 1900-2400 for rebuilt, i think). So you got a great price
score! = excellent deal dude
many are paying 2500 average- 2800- 3000,,so you totally scored!!
once its had some break-in miles, I would go to the redline, mix street and racing,
to retain certain aspects the racer fluid doesnt use--street has additives for smoothness
learning torque curves and what to avoid in hard downshifting the TL will improve its life
use Track Day as a search in your area--200-300$ for a day of race track driving with a pro racer as your coach,,they will help you learn to drive YOUR car fast, without abusing it

Oh lol sorry about that. And I guess I did get a deal, the place was American Transmission Center in Virginia Beach. Labor was like $695 and I had to have my motor and transmission mounts replaced and a few other parts that he didnt charge me any extra labor to put on. They also have a 100,000 mile/ 7 year warranty for about 300-400 more dollars, not bad at all. I just moved to VA not too long ago, so does anybody know of any driving schools around this area?
HPDE (High Performance Drivers Ed) is one of the most cost-effective things you can do to make a car go faster!
