Bought a 2000 TL 3.2 as a 3rd car in the family..recently the Check Engine light came on, along with the TCS lamp... pulled the car over for a while, eventually the TCS lamp went out. The CEL lamp stays on. Took the car to AutoZone- using their scanner, they gave me 3 codes (P0730, P0780, and P1676), 'assuming' possible xmission problems (after reading all the threads on this site). I'm taking the car to the dealer this week to see what they say...expired warranty- mileage considerable over 100K.. holding my breath. Car runs like a dream..but I'm nervous about the tranny. I saw one thread where flushing the fluid helps...any other ideas?

Is the cars tranny giving you problems? I dont know what those codes are off-hand but it doesnt guarentee tranny problems. An acura shop tech told me as a general rule, whenever the CEL light comes on the TCS light also comes on. For example i had a CEL code for a bad knock sensor, and the TCS light would go on whenever i went over 20mph. But if i stoped and restarted the engine TCS would go out untill i hit 20 again. Get the codes diagnosed.
The dealer will most likely rape you. I got them to pay half of the repairs since i just got the car, so hopefully you can too. (I told them shit like "this is exactly why i gave up on GM"). Good luck

Are you aware that the original 100,000 mile warranty on the transmission has been extended to 109,000 miles because of a class action lawsuit?
Is your mileage beyond 109,000 miles?
If the dealer doesn't offer any help, try calling Acura's national Customer Care line. Sometimes they will step in and help.
Good Luck!

I bought this car for a song....it's got 160k miles...so the warranty issue is out. The tranny isn't really giving me much of a problem now, but the initial problems coupled with the Error Codes (and posts on this site) are making me extremely nervous. This is the 1st time the CEL lamp came on, so, hoping I've caught a problem early on rather than continued driving and making things worse. Stated in my original post, the car is going to the dealer next week...will let you know what happens.

Well, just got word from the Acura dealer...they told me what I already know. I gave the Error codes that are causing the CEL to stay on (P0730, P0780, P1676). They that the tranny could go today, next week, or next month. When it starts to go, they can replace it for me for ~$4000. So, I'm out $70 for them to tell me what I already know. Now, I need to decide what I'm gonna do with the car. I don't want to drive it and get stuck somewhere. It doesn't appear that I have many options here.

You should take it to the dealer ASAP. When my tranny went out my car downshifted to 2nd at freeway speeds (70mph). The SUV behind me barely missed me. My car jerked so HARD that i broke 2 engine mounts and my tires chirped and broke loose for a second.
These trannies are dangerous. After that incident they replaced my tranny but my car didnt feel the same anymore. It was shifting at 6500 instead of 7000 and the shifts were kinda rough. I had to sell my lovely CL-S and waste a bunch of money trading for another car...

So you bought the car "for a song" at 160K miles. How much are songs these days?
And now it needs influx of funds- what were you expecting?
The guy selling it figured it was getting ready for that!
Or did it have salvage title?
These cars will go well over 200-maybe 300k miles!!!
If you like the car, and a mechanic has looked the rest of it over before you bought,
its hard to find ANY good used reliable comfortable car with the style and features of a TL for under 5 grand.
Taking it to the dealer will get you a replacement unit with the latest updates and changes to the transmissions, AND a warranty. Ask them what the exact warranty is- but should be 3 years 30k miles when you pay full price
They would also rebate the 70 dollar diagnosis fee since you have them do the work
Ask your local trans shop if they have done rebuilds on the TL trans
Those are usually 3000-3500 and variable warranty.
Love my TL, dont mind doing maitenace and small upgrades and was lucky to have 70k on the trans went so it was warranty- free and they loaned me a car!
