I messed up my type S cluster.....

I did the LED mod and think I fried the cluster and now the cluster won't light up. I think the wires were touching or something and it just turned off. I check the fueses but they were all fine. When i start the car, the miles and other lights come on, but when i turn the lights on, the numbers and needles dont light up....I think im goin to have to get some indeglow gauges and light up needles. what do you guys think?
THANKs....

dude, the same thing happened to me and just changing the gauge faces won't help, the problem is with the green board and there is no fix other than to replace it and in doing so your mileage is also going to go back to zero... I don't know much about the reverse glow or how they work (how they're lit up) but I do know that your green board is pooched... good luck bro

You can't change the gauges. Many people trying to put on indiglo gauges pulled/moved the needles, which messes up the spring calibration. So you'll probably have to live with dead needles unless you wanna have gauges that are all off.

Maybe I can help; I did the mod last year (actually i chaged all dash illumination in the car to blue) and had the gauge cluster out many times. The basic LED mod in the dash just involves changing over to LEDs mounted to small wedges which insert into the original bulb sockets, unless, like me, you were adding even more LEDs by soldering directly on to circuit board. Can you explain what you mean when you said wires were touching?

I think the positive and negative ends of the LEDs touched somehow because i was trying to adjust it to where the LED would light up the part of the cluster evenly, so I heard something fry and I also smelled something burn. I think I'm going to need a whole new cluster or change the whole green plate on the back of the cluster.

Yeah that is a bit of a chuckle although I know its not really funny since its going to cost him some dough now. Well if you smelled something roasting you will have to replace the board. Bummer. When I was working on my cluster, I had in on my desk and I used a 12 volt power supply to light it up. That way the only circuit that was energized was the illumination circuit.
