So recently... the 01 TL finally started to shift very roughly and started to hang when shifting from 2-3. also, check engine light started going on and now the TCS light goes on after 10-15 minutes as well...

im wondering, how much to your knowledge do i have left before im dead stopped and how much have you guys spent on aftermarket tranny costs be in aamco, dealer or otherwise.

warranty on the tranny is extended to 100,000 is your TL salvaged or past that mileage?

 

It's 109,000 miles now because of the class action suit settlement.

And even if you're out of warranty, it doesn't hurt to check with Acura Customer Care since others have received entirely free or heavily discounted transmissions. At worst, they say they can't help.

The previous owner of my 1999 TL had the transmission replaced through Acura last year for $3,200. (It was way out of warranty at 173,000 miles.)

If you get the work done outside of Acura, be sure that you get the latest parts. Acura made some improvements to the design in February of 2005 that might have improved reliability.

And it's hard to predict how much time is left. If you don't want to get stranded somewhere, take care of it as soon as you can.

Its a ticking time bomb. I WOULD NOT drive the car any where but to the dealer or a trans repair shop if your out side of warranty

 

I would say it all depends on your driving survival skills
Cause when that baby locks into 2nd gear at speed and the guy on your tail
gets suddenly closer.....
