How long do I have before my inevitable doom

So i went to get my car inspected this afternoon and the guy told me I have a bad tie rod end. And from what he told me 9/10 the car will roll if I'm on the highway.. Which I am every day of the week. So my question is how long do I have before my car takes me for a ride I don't want to take

Here is the DIY to replace them... Unfortunately, the pictures are not working, but it's a solid write up

Get that tie rod replaced ASAP, and check the other side as well. With the age and miles on our old TL's, an inspection of the steering and suspension parts is advised. Most alignment shops will check things out on a rack for free and give ya an estimate for any necessary repairs. Better safe, than sorry !!!

Aggressive steering wheel shakes @ high speed you'll know your tie rod will take a dump soon.

also the wheel separating itself from the steering inputs will be a major clue of total failure, followed by car careening across the freeway into a concrete k-wall = total bummer
This is serious stuff, 9 of 10 to fail is the tech saying- I should take it off the road as unsafe- but you have been notified so its on you at this point!!

parts are not much- try napa and our dealer vendors who cut a major deal for us see VENDOR link at top of pages

If tech looked the car over- he would have said if other side or other suspension steering things were needed- as an alignment is required afterwards- its best to do any suspect parts at one time

If he said it only needs an END those are able to be replaced, keeping the arm and other end
compare parts price to complete assembly with all 3 parts, the labor to replace a rust frozen on tie rod end = I would rather have a new unit for safety and peace of mind
and its simple to remove old part- install new - get alignment = done

would it explain the car shaking at about 80 mph? its not horrible but its enough to question whats going on... also i have a slightly damaged rim from the previous owner thats now on the side with the bad rod would the car be shaking from that?

Yeah, a bad tie rod and or damaged rim can cause issues for sure.
If ya don't like shakin' at 80 mph......ya may wanna consider some PM or rotate the tires.

If "DIY", spray some penetrating oil on the threads. Count the number of threads before loosening the tie-rod end's locknut.....that way your alignment will be relatively close.

If the Acura dealership is servicing this, get your own personal prelube ready beforehand.

Why risk any potential danger to yourself or others while doing 80 down the freeway ?

Say what ? !!! ...... $1044 for some front end suspension/steering work is highway robbery. Total BS !!!

Check Rockauto for good prices on parts. Both sides, inner & outer tie rods along with sway bar end links shouldn't be much more than $250 for all parts. If ya can't DIY, find somebody mechanically inclined to help
ya out. IMO, $200 for labor would be a fair ballpark estimate......so for less than $500, you'll be safe again.
