HELP!..steering rack replacement

i'm kind of desperate.
i have the old steering rack out...and i cant figure out how to get the new rack in.
has anyone done a rack replacement?.
what else do i need to remove....to get this thing back in?
i barely got it out... likely because i really muscled it out.
not caring what i did because i was replacing it.

i might stop at the acura dealer tomorrow and see if i can talk to a technician.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kris....WHERE ARE YOU!.

Its not something that i can really say how. Its a finesse job (depending on what you removed to take it out) What have you removed to get it out?

u didnt loosen any chassis parts?
did u disconnect the transmission selector cable?
it doesn't really seem like i need to disconnect that though.

i'm so pissed...i got it out and cant get it back in.

and the power steering pump lines took forever to get off.
i had the rack unbolted before doing the lines..it was moving around too much to loosen the lines, so i bolted it back down and was able to undo the lines.

and it's going to be fun putting the fluid lines back on....if i can this f*&#ing rack back in.

HOW DO THEY DO THIS AT ACURA!!!!

i try again after work.

I wish i could get my scanner to work with windows 7 but i cant (though the pics probably wont help too much)

This is from the manual.

Knuckles stay on. You need to remove the right and left tie rod ends. Only thing under the car that comes off is the Y pipe part of the header and the stiffener plates (pieces that go over the rack to hold it in place).

Then Pull the steering gearbox (rack) down so that the pinion shaft(the part the steering wheel connects to) clears the bulkhead and remove the pinion shaft grommet from the top of the valve body unit.

Move teh steering gear box to the passengers side until the drivers side rack end rests on the end of the rear beam

To get the drivers side rack end around the rear beam, push up and back on the passengers side rack end then pull down on the drivers side of the steering gear box and remove.

Reverse for install

Actually a few pages later has the install but its pretty much the same. except for centering and the mounting cushions and bracket placement. And torque specs.

I have to run out but will be back in a hr or so. Ill see if i cant get these pages scanned.

You remove the plate that it goes into and disconnect it from the trans.

There are 2 bolts where the shift cable is located. Then the plate it bolts to has 3 bolts, remove them and the plate and you gain access to the shift cable end. Once the plate cover is off then remove the one bolt holding the cable to the linkage. Once out the cable comes off

Ask a friend to come & take a look. Sometimes another (fresh) set of eyes & brain will see something right away that you've missed. It's worked for me before. Good luck.
