HELP PLEASE!!.. door trim disaster

Hey Guys

I try my best to take care of my beautiful 2000 TL... but unfortunately.. it seems like the damn Florida heat is taking toll on it.

My door trim is coming apart.. and the dealer says I need to replace the entire thing and it would cost me around 800$ .. is there any other solution to this problem? I am attaching pics .. maybe one of u can help me with some ideas.

thanks a mil

I have the same problem. It is not covered under warranty (I have the extended 7 year 100Kmile) and they said no dice. I will not cost 800 bucks to fix. YOu can buy just the arm rest part from the dealer. It is like $150 or something. Still a rip-off in mu opinion.

I have tried all kinds of glue, and nothing works. If you do a search I think there was a guy who sewed it back on. Not sure how he did it.

Maybe try to find a local junkyard and see if you can get the part?

Good luck.

This is the exact problem that led me to join Acurazine looking for a fix! Disappointed to find out I'm NOT alone.

It's not the FLA heat, same trouble in MD. My 02 TL just began showing the same problem. One side is further along than the other but it looks alot like your pix.

Trying to work up the nerve to use some Gorilla glue and a couple of c-clamps. Any advice out there would be awesome...

One of mine in the back is doing the same thing. Anyone tried a hot glue gun? Dries fast and hard....you just have to makes sure that you protect the areas that are seen. I would like to try it , just haven't had the time.

i highly doubt that the hot glue will work, its not adhesive enough. I think the best bets so far are sowing and gorilla glue. I think im going to get out of my laziness and try the glue/clamps...

check on ebay and just get a new door panel...probably cheaper than having it fixed.

took mine to an auto trim shop. They said the foam shrinks. It is a bad design and destined to fail. I can't believe Acura would use this cheap crap in their cars. He also said he has tried to fix it before and nothing really works. He suggested Silicone but said that more likely than not it will not work.

As a hardcore Honda loyalist, it pains me to say the TL is a case where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. The materials and build quality just aren't up to Honda standards in a lot of ways. The idea of a car with all these features at a price of $28,000 new (TL-P) was great... the execution wasn't so great.

BTW I've had 6 Honda Accords, so I'm familiar with Honda quality and reliability.
