Looks like the transmission failing. If it's not slipping or crashing into 2nd gear, it might be salvageable.

How is your history with transmission fluid service?

Do you have the original transmission or a replacement one? If it was replaced, was it before or after ~March 2005.

You can check by looking for blue bolts on the transmission casing.

Since you have a 99TL, you should have a 4 speed. Those are much more reliable than the later model. Maybe find a good Honda/Acura mech and pay him to clean your solenoids.

Thanks man but the trans was done back in 09 new. Wouldn't it do it hot or cold if it was the trans going?

Yup since its a 4Spd you might have better luck in the 1G TL Forum since most of the 2Gs have the 5Spd Auto Suicide Transmission.

But to Add Up! Hows your Fluid looking and Smelling?
If its Brown things arent good you should have a Cherry Fluid looking and The Smell should be OK but not too strong enough to smell it from a Meter.

Fluid is red and smell is okay. My thing is why do it only when it's hot? I am really hoping the trans isn't going on me. Can't afford something like that

Oh if it was installed in 09, you should be fine. Especially since it's a 4spd. I'd follow the clue right in front of you. Fix what the car is telling you via the codes.

Clean the solenoids.

I can't really offer an explanation for the temperature. It should actually get better when it's at operating temp. Weird, but I don't think your transmission is going to die. Just get it checked out at a transmission shop.

I dont think your trans is going South, It should be something wrong with the Solenoids.

Did the Shop Used OEM Honda ATF-Z1???? Cuz Dexron III Compatible is shit for any Honda Trans...

as you drive IF there is some clutch material floating around- it eventually clogs up the filter screens on the torque convertor, limiting or preventing fluid from going out and thru the trans to make the shifts happen

so after an hour driving...

If this happens to you, try letting it sit 15-30 minutes- if it goes back to normal thats a clue

for this car I would take a 3 ounce drain sample of the atf and send to blackstone labs
for 25 bucks they will figure out whats going on inside, metal amounts and other particulate matter will reveal a problem, a simple fix...well worth it for our trans

But definetly clean the selenoids- they gum up
2 years --its ready for its first 3 qt oil change,,or more

Clean the solenoids.
Even the latest and final version of the factory rebuild tranny is not bulletproof. So don't rule out this possibility.
