External Oil Jets

Does anyone know when Acura started putting the external oil jets
on their ailing transmissions?

It was part of the recall. That happened (without looking it up) sometime in 2001-2 i believe. In 05 they were built in in the rebuilds.

Why what are you looking for or need?

Actually,

01tl4tl has been graciously helping me with this
but he may not be around just now having bought new motorcycle :-)

00 TL bought new 7/00
Trans replaced on warrantee 7/04 w/approx 35k mi after dealer service the week before.

Transmission self serviced @ 74k mi 2/08 (approx 35k on rebuild unit)
Drain/refill x3 - No external jet noticed - just the regular ATF filler plug.
(My understanding is that the external oiler went where the reg. filler plug goes)

Last Thurs. (83k) Transmission made loud 1st/2nd shift "thunk"/ CEL, D5,TCS lights flashing.

Via appt. took into dealer Sat. & got 09 loaner (sweet)

Today, they said (after talking to Acura corporate?) out of warrantee (time) but will replace for $952 -"maybe" less if control unit/fuel regulator not needed. (3 yr./36k warrantee)

Just wondering if lack of outside oiler on the 04 rebuilt unit should put me in a better position to deal w/ them?
(952.00 isn't too awfully bad and they're nice about it)

I haven't talked to the actual service manager yet- just the service writer I saw on saturday (nice guy named Sam @ Acura of Portland)

I am not trying to get something for nothing - I just want what's fair.

Comments?

You can try but honestly unless its the 2nd gear shaft that got damaged i doubt they will do any thing.

Will they inspect that as a matter of course?

ask them to. If it is that would fall under the "Recall" and mileage/age shouldnt matter then. If its the 3rd gear clutchpack then you may (and i would) want to take the deal.

Just talked to service manager - she said it was a clutch pack issue which I understand negates the 2nd gear shaft issue.

She wasn't sure about the
ecu replacement at this point as the replacement trans just came in and
she said an updated ecu came already on the 1st replacement unit.

I'll update you when I hear.

I really appreciate your help.

This forum has been of great assistance over the last few yrs.!!!!
