Engine knock or fluttering?
Engine knock or fluttering?
Hey guys this is my first post here because I really need some help on this.
Driving home last night all of a sudden my car lost a lot of power then I could hear a consistent knock that would speed up when I accelerated. Got home popped the hood, turns out I did have low oil, topped it off and started it again but, noise was still there and at idle. I recently changed my valve cover gasket and spark plugs about 60 miles ago before this started. So I decided to pull out the spark plugs, clean them up and RE torque them to spec. The gap I use is .43 and I torque them about 2/3 of a turn. But the noise is still there. I didn't have a chance to pull out the oil filter just yet but I do not have a drop in oil pressure at all. Not going to drive it anymore until the noise is gone. Also my mileage is at 200000

You can try unplugging one ignition coil at a time and listen for the noise level.(engine on)
If the noise is present on all cylinders then try removing the accessory belts then start the engine.
If its still there then you will need to go under the car, locate and remove the torque converter cover its only held on by 2 10mm bolts then you will see the flex plate, If it has play and you can reproduce the noise then it can be the flex plate bolts or the converter bolts that came loose. (engine off)
You should be a able to move the converter by hand if it has play or you can use a small crow bar to check.
