I didn't read the thread, but going by the title of the thread, I highly recommend using a hela coil to repair the thread. You can get a kit from Napa, and it will retain the original bolt and thread size.

basically, you tap out the hole with the tap provided, thread in a coil, then the original bolt will screw right in, and will be waaay stronger than just an oversized bolt. I've used hela coils on engine mounts, and ive heard of people using em on head bolts so they are definetly strong

I wondered what they were talkin about helicoil stuff. but thanks I hope I dont have to ever fix this issue again so next time I will be the only one removeing the drain bolt when we do oil changes and I will bring a 17mm wrench of my own so I know i can use the closed end of the wrench and carefully remove and install the drain bolt back securely with out hurting the threads

Hey man, buy a 6 point swivel socket wrench......paint it fluorescent orange and place it in your glove box. Better to be the person turning the wrench as you learned the hard way !

Ya well I took it back and they said I would have to pay 50% of the cost of the normal labor rate. I think my car is leaking Power steering fluid more then anything now... It does seem like a PITA and not really worth changing cause the pan is still good so I got this extra pan just in case I ever really need it in case of emergency, Im in the process of trying to get a new car so if i do my bro will be the lucky young lad to own my fine acura tl I will teach him to respect the car as much as possible so that it last at long as it can...
Hopefully everything falls thru pretty soon to get a new ride.

no its not wear and tear IF the correct torque of 29 foot pounds (not the 50+ they did) has been applied each time, it wont hurt the aluminum in any way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there is no regular wear out time of the oil pan threads!!!!!

they effed your car man,,
how can they try to get away with charging you??--when it could easily have been a new engine at their expense when that leak became full scale blowout!
And what about that--we will take care of it if needed bs they told you before?

heard of the BBB? (if they belong) and the state bureau of auto repair-licensing
they would be interested in this theory of drain plug wearout!

they owe you for the oil pan purchase, free install, plus an oil change with new filter--in case stuff has been floating around from thread shavings
their total labor cost 50 bucks, parts 10 plus oil pan

I ran a shop for years,,this is the way the shop SHOULD handle it, if owner wants to stay out of small claims court- where customer always wins! and more than cost of repair~

much cheaper to just do it right and keep the customer happy,
TRAIN/ retrain staff to use actual torque gauge on ALL bolts- not blast on as tight as possible with the air gun (rips threads from pan)
or a huge long wrench generating 100 foot pounds by same grunt installer who put the oil filter on so tight its squished the oring seal~ needs screwdriver punched thru to spin filter off!!!!,,yeah,,,,,, that guy got the drain plug perfect tight spec

every single bolt has a spec torque,,bolts actually stretch!!
and torque spec is where they belong,,not 10 20 50 100 pounds over spec

oil and atf drains are 29 foot pounds on the TL,,
wheel lugs are 80 = for referance of how tight your oil plug probably was

There's a place I found by me that rents lift bays w a set of tools. I used their facilitiy to install my headers and rear mount and holy shit was I happy to have a lift for those jobs. I couldn't imagine turning the wrench for those on my back. It was 36 bucks an hour so not too terrible at all. I think there needs to be more places for DIY available.

ya man its all good they gonna have to eat the cost up alot better Im willing to give a some dough I already spend alot I looked at my reciets just yesterday I spent like 600 cash on a bunch of stuff that I did to my tl front and rear brakes and some tires, radiator flush and a oil change. and all I have been able to afford is the maintenance but this has been the car I took the best care of out of the ton of cars I have owned.
