Door Assembly and Cleaning
Door Assembly and Cleaning
Hi, everyone, please excuse me if there's already some threads around here that could help me. I've been searching, and haven't found anything too helpful yet.
I bought my 2003 TL just this summer with low mileage, and it's not only my first car, but I'm paying for it myself (I'm 19) - so it's still new to me, and I'm VERY attached to it!
I was driving my buddy home this morning from a night of drinking, and for whatever alcohol-related reasons, he suddenly vomited all over the inside of my car. I couldn't pull over fast enough because we were on the highway, but he was getting ready to open the door when it happened - so he was facing the door when he lost his lunch. To spare you details, he basically coated my door (and all of it's many nooks and crannies) - the window seal, all of the gaps between plastic panels, the door lock and window buttons, etc. etc.
I started to clean as soon as I got home and spent 3 hours with rags, toothpicks, q-tips, a toothbrush, 409, windex, and leather cleaner. I did the best I could to get everything out of the many cracks and crevices, and everything looks good - I'll take it tomorrow to get the interior cleaned and shampooed.
My problem is that I'm convinced that it's absolutely inevitable that crap has gotten into the many nooks and crannies of the door. The last thing I want is vomit *inside* of my door assembly.
Any tips on cleaning this up more? I'm not too familiar with cars, and I know that the complexity of door assemblies varies significantly - how is the door assembly on 2003 TLs? Should I consider taking the door apart, or at least taking the paneling off? Are there any guides on these forums (I've been looking, but I'm sure there must be some)? Any other tips/warnings/etc.? One of my biggest concerns is the cloth covering over speaker...it seems to have caught quite a bit.
Thanks!
