D4 Blinking after trans swap in 99TL...Help!
Hi Guys,
My uncle owns a 99 TL and the trans started bucking hard when starting off and shifting. My uncle isn't working right now so I bought a trans out of a pick-n-pull and just swapped it out.

Got everything togather today and went for a drive...

no bad noises, but...
-CEL Light
-TCS Light
-D4 Blinking Light

Symptoms: When D4 selected the trans seems to be starting off in a high gear and not shifting. Obviously you need to get on the gas for a while to get going because it seems to be in 3rd or 4th gear.

When Selecting other gears, they work fine (R,N,1,2)

This tranns seems to be much better than the last, but I'm afraid I may have mis wired it or something. Any help would be great!!!

You may have bought a bad transmission. Was there a warranty given??

 

Yes, there was a warranty. I sure hope thats not the case.

Went to Auto Zone and had them check the code.

Came up: P0763
Definition: Transmission Stuck In 4th Gear

Probable Cause
-Open or Short Circuit Condition
-Poor Electrical Connection
-Failed Shift Control Solenoid

Is it possible that I swapped plugs or something on the re-install??? Or is this plug keyed?

P0763......start with troubleshooting this CEL code.
It indicates a problem in Shift Control Solenoid (valve C circuit).

I'm no expert, but it may possibly be a wiring short, bad connection or ground causing this code. You could try pulling the solenoid, then clean the screen and connector. Maybe check on a new one ?

At this point, an electrical schematic diagram of the tranny may help you to troubleshoot possible problems......before declaring the tranny as bad. Did you see the car that the tranny came out of and how many miles were on it ? Have you drained the old fluid and replaced it with Honda DW1 ? Also, replace the filter.
