Cranking real hard?

lately my car has been having real trouble starting, and i have to cross my fingers each time i start my car... when i turn the key, it barely has enough juice to start and then all my doors lock and my dash flickers...
is this a sign of a bad battery? the indicator on th battery is still a light green though.
or can it be something else?
im running 2 12" subs approx 1000 watts and HID fogs as well..

That little indicator isnt very accurate. Bring it to a autoparts store or like sears and let them LOAD Test the battery. Thats what it sounds like it is

agreed,... definitely sounds like the battery is going out on you. But have it checked anyway. Normally they'll check it for free.

i was thinking it was the battery...
then my cousin told me it can be anything like alternator, spark plugs, etc etc?
also, could this be the cause of my leaking/corroding terminals?

well it wouldnt be the alt on a start up, only if its not charging the battery, go get a load test, they'll tell you whats up. sparkplugs? not if it was recently doing this. check the simple stuff first.

well it just recently happened to start cranking real bad...
probably past couplke of weeks.
i had my system in for almost a year and the newly added fogs for over 2 months...
i would think those two applicatiosn alone would overstrain the battery right?
im thinking i should go with the Yellowtop soon.
thanks guys.

no, hid's don't suck up as much juice as every thinks they do, they are most likely using a lot less power than the stock fog lights. as far as a yellow top, the guy at autozone said its a waste of money, said the duralast gold is just as good, 1/2 the price, w/ 3 yrs no questions asked bring it back. or get a diehard etc. read around on yellow tops, a lot of people have had some issues with them. besides, a battery is a battery, until you fully drain it, you need 12.6 volts to crank her over, and CCA is what you should care about, duralast gold and yellow top were the same CCA, yellow top had like 80 more overall amps steady, nothing to right home about.

Indeed, HID lighting systems use less power than conventional halogen lighting. It requires an initial surge of power to fire up (this comes from the igniter) but after that 35w is all it needs. The fogs are 55w I believe in stock form.

i have to dissagree on the battery part. a battery isnt just a battery. The optima series is far superior to the standard lead/acid filled batteries. they last longer, are able to take a beating (which is something that happens with a stereo, all the quick discharging and charging. The optima is designed for it. I have a optima red top that powered a 2000 watt stereo for 3 years and is now on its 7th year in my S10 with no signs of wearing down.

the guy didn't say anything about stereos etc.

yes a battery is important to a point, your alternator is what runs your car and constantly charges your battery, there is so much a battery can do, if you are drawing more power than your alternator can handle a charge at then ya, maybe a optima will last a tad longer, but if your alternator is stout, charging the battery fully etc, than all you really need the battery for is to start the car and maintain your systems. an optima is great for racing, offroading etc, more resistant to the extremes. yeah it'll never leak, but the chances of that happening in an acura, normal driving, slim to none. truthfully, i asked 5 different people, all on different shifts, and on also different boards, on this board also in the stereo section, no one said an optima was necessary, actually some said its more overkill on your wallat, if your battery maintains 12.6 volts, thats all that your car needs. my stereo is about the same power, i have a 1 farad cap also, no problems so far.

Not trying to but heads, like the guys at autozone said, if you'll feel better with an optima, spend twice as much, but if you were to close your eyes, spend half the price, i think $70, and get a duralast gold top or similar, you probably won't know the difference.

let us know how it turns out.

duralast gold, the have a red to, but i think that is the lower level, i guess they went along with the optima colors, red is good, gold is better? what you had in your PM to me was what was sitting in my car.

Well i know for a fact that my optima will hold a charge alot longer with the stereo running. (which will make it alot easier on the alternator and produce a better current for the amp.

wouldnt argue with you on that, i agree that optimas are built more for a deep deep cycle charge if your running the stereo off the battery with the car off, but, while the car is running, if the system is set up correctly, not much if any difference.
