why did it need a jump- battery problem- alternator-
Did you go to a parts store for a free test of the system?
If the battery is 4 years old or so- its headed for the recyler

Well, unfortunately i left both reading lights on overnight. Drained the battery, so had to jump it. Now the check engine light is on.

You did drive it around for 30 minutes with no radio or fan or headlights?
that should be enough to charge the battery back up.
Take it to the parts store for a checkup,
and if you disconnect the battery neg cable- it will reset the computer and should clear the CEL- as long as everything is ok
YOu can also pull fuse 12 in the passenger footwell- marked Clock-for a minute then insert, its the secret power to the ecu and will force a reset
