Car shut off while running
Car shut off while running
About two weeks ago and then again the other day my 99 3.2TL shut off while running. Luckily, I wasn't in traffic either time and slowly stopped on the side of the road and it started back up right away with no problem. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this and what I can do to fix it? Since it's starting back up it doesn't seem to be a big issue but I can only imagine something isn't going quite right and it may get worse.
A little background if needed: There's about 159,000 miles on it, had the timing belt along with all the other belts changed exactly 1 year ago (I've put 16,000 miles on the car since then).
Thanks for any help!!!

Sounds like an ignition switch. There is a problem on the 99s and they were recalled. See if yours has been replaced, if not get it replaced. If it has been many have had the replacement fail and needed a new one.
If it's already been replaced under the recall, you can buy one yourself for about $50. There's a great DIY linked in the DIY Thread.
My 1999 TL is on its third ignition switch.
As soon as I saw the thread title-- my brain said its a 99 right?!
Call acura with your VIN and ask if the recall was performed

If no- get it in right away- call for appt at local dealer as they may have to order it
if yes- go to the parts store and buy one as bob and kris have said- the DIY section is your friend

Ah, the ignition switch. Last year when the timing belt was messing up I looked into the ignition switch myself as a way to trouble shoot. At that point we didn't know the timing belt lost it's tension (luckily it didn't break, phew). I can't recall now whether we changed the switch or just tested it, I think just tested it so I'll go ahead and replace it myself and see if that doesn't solve the problem. Thanks for the help!

i have the same problem. mine does it very quick tho. i can see the on odometer that my spped indicater goes down along with the gas and everything but this happens only for a sec. i have a 02 is it prob the same iggnition switch??
i would suggest just taking it in to acura and having them do it. When i brought my 99 in, they did some other recall to the ignition system as well. It was something like the ignition contacts.
