Question Can't open driver's side door!

For some reason, my driver's side door will not open on my TL. I'm pretty sure that it's just a little plastic clip that has broken. Unfortunately, both door handles (inside and outside) aren't working so there is no way to open the drivers side door. I'm trying to take off the door panel but it is hard to do with the door shut and no way to open it. Any suggestions on how to get my door open?

Nope, no luck. My boyfriend and I worked on the car until past midnight last night and we figured out that the lock on the door is jammed and not disengaging. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to get to that part from the inside of the door. I guess I will have to bring it around to mechanic shops and see if they can fix it. Until then, I'll look really freaking cool climbing in the car from the passenger side.

From what you said about the lock not disengagine, sounds like someone may have tried to slimjim your car to break in. I have no personal experiance with this but from what I understand that if a slim jim is used incorrectly, there is a linkage in there that will break. Just my

it's too bad that you're over there, I have a box full of break-in tools, maybe a mechanic there or a tow truck company could access the linkage through the window opening...

edit: actually, i don't know where you are... are you in cali by chance?

Well, it turned out that the whole door jam needed to be replaced and cost $600, mostly in labor. I get my car back Wednesday. I have a feeling that it might have been cheaper this time to bring it to the dealership.

Aww - you should have just left it the way it was and gone through the window like Bo and Luke Duke from the Dukes of Hazard...

Oh wait - perhaps a TL is too classy for that...

I suppose going through the window could have been faster than climbing through the passenger side!
