Angry A/C compressor fix 2,100!!

My a/c start blowing warm air the other day i took it to the acura dealer today got a estamate of 2,100$ and they said the compressor locked up and contaminted the system they recommend i replace compressor, condenser, evaporator, expanion valve, suction hose, disharge hose! just wondering if this has happen to anybody and is there any way i can salvage the parts beside the compressor and make this a cheaper fix??

did it lock up-- or did it shred parts internally and ruin the system,,which would be odd but right in line with dealer thinking--replace all and for sure its fixed!

take to a private ac shop and ask for diagnosis,,compressors can be rebuilt or buy rebuilt

used would be dicey --rotten old dry seals etc

how did it fail? what led to it,,symptoms beside it stopped blowing right

you've been out of the A/C business too long the compressors haven't been rebuildable in a long time.

i wouldn't be going to the dealer they are replacing everything and everything doesn't need replaced, there are screens within the system that would prevent chunks of metal from flowing completely through the system, basicly all you need is the compressor and maybe a line or two.

if it came apart there is some real problems with the unit itself!!

might replace receiver dryer unit to be safe, and compressor

I thought there was a thread on replacing ac comp seals etc?? maybe wishful thinking on someones part?

you already made that clear- I was joking about the techs reaction,, and thoughts to the service writer on the find

like the vw van came in on the tow truck,,ran perfect yesterday, now it wont start,, the owner says

Open rear cover and NO ENGINE present in engine compartment = STOLEN!!! right in front of his house!!
Hey Boss!! I think I found the problem on this one- do I still get paid 1 hour diagnosis?

Reputable salvage yards will offer a warranty on a/c compressors, alternators, etc. I got a compressor about a year ago, replaced a few lines, the condensor, accumulator/drier, then got a full service repair shop to charge the system. Has worked great, and saved me a bundle replacing all the parts myself.

Of course refrigerant oil will need to be added to both of those components. Depending on condition, you might need new o-rings as well.

At least inspect the o-rings. If they have remained lubricated the entire time, they should be fine. If they have dried or have tears, you should replace. That's how I did mine...and I added my own refrigerant oil before taking it to be charged.

I would say not to waste your money on salvage yard compressors. I went through 2 POS compressor that all leaked from the clutch from a used TL. Save your money and spend the extra 100$ more and go to Autozone and get a brand new OEM DENSO AC compressor. That's what I did I also replaced just the reciever drier. The Denso Comp, already comes with all the O-Rings and OIL. The whole kit cost me 390 without returning the core. I saved about 1500 versus the stealership quote.
