Abs, srs, vsa, triangle lights all on...codes read

Sooo, took my car into the dealer today to finally have the airbag inflater recall done so they would stop calling and sending me letters (was part of the original recall, not the recent one) turns out after they inspected it the bag was fine and would not need replacing... Turns out though that my OPDS unit is bad and needs to be replaced so luckily it is being covered under an extended warranty...

While it was there they kindly pulled the codes that made the other lights pop... This is what they came back with:

84-1 = Sensor Logicfailure
53-1 = ABS pump motor relay short
11-1 = R/F sensor
51-1 = ABS pump motor failure
72-1 = modul. Failure

Now obviously I'm gonna replace the front abs sensor first because it's the easiest and quickest fix... But my question is could the sensor cause the other codes to pop, or is it pretty much a fact that my abs pump is shot.. Im pretty sure the first 2 codes are shadow codes and could possibly be caused by one of the last three... Any info would be appreciated!!!

does the ABS work?

did you do something to damage the front wheel speed sensor?
brake job- suspension drop?

yes many codes are false
start with that wheel speed sensor

No, I'm pretty sure the abs does not work right now.. Any good ways to test it out besides the obvious trying to stop really fast?? Lol ... But yea most recently I had an axle replaced, but the lights were on before that.. In the past year and a half I had new rotors and pads put in, and also new wheels bearings... Can't remember if the lights were all on then or not.. Could they possibly have been triggered by the bad OPDS unit, and then the bad wheel sensor caused the other codes to pop???

I commute by train to work so I don't really drive it as much, only on weekends when I need to get things done... I actually got used to the better braking from the slotted rotors and aggressive pads, and the no abs kinda saved me from an accident or two in fast braking situations.. So I never really got around to messing with it til now... I guess the first place to start is with the sensor and then go from there. Hopefully it will clear out the rest of those codes!!

based on that story of extensive work done over a period of visits, things being removed-moved around,,,= probable broken wire in speed sensor

OPDS Occupant Position Detection System, compares weight on passenger seat bottem and back,,if it thinks your buddy is leaned over on the window or has the seat layed way back, it wont deploy the side airbag--to prevent breakage of their neck during inflation~

system also tricked by almost any bag you put on passenger seat
dont sweat the yellow light in that situation

we have a special 10 year/150kmiles (whichever first) SRS system warranty- includes the OPDS

If you have a problem with your seatbelt retraction slow (another special warranty)
or side airbag light stays on- call dealer for appt

1 800 382 2238x5 can give you more info

yeaaa... its being replaced under warranty.. special order part though, so i gotta wait.. went in to get the airbag checked under the recall and they said its good but the OPDS was bad and thats what was throwing the SRS light on.. so im thinking that the sensor went bad and was masked by the lights already on from the OPDS.. and hopefully caused all the other abs pump codes and whatnot... ordered the sensor today so i guess we'll find out soon

quick update.. replaced the wheel speed sensor a while back and pulled clock fuse to reset( not sure if this erases Abs codes as well) and no dice.. ABS, VSA and triangle are still on. No abs no cruise and no traction control.. doesn't really bother me to much as i only drive on weekends..but the lights on the dash are really annoying me hah.. any ideas what the next troubleshooting step should be..

here are the codes that were pulled

84-1 = Sensor Logicfailure
53-1 = ABS pump motor relay short
11-1 = R/F sensor - Sensor Replaced
51-1 = ABS pump motor failure
72-1 = modul. Failure

Had the same type of issue with all 3 lights on. Replaced abs pump motor and that fixed the abs. Replaced speed sensor, but vsa light still on and traction control not working.
Took it to Honda to check it out - they had to re-program the vsa computer. Good to go for $50.

had on 03 tl come back with 7 or 8 ABS related codes reffering to wheel sensors and abs module and abs pump. Cleared the codes and nothing came back and everything works as it should.

Turns out that one time I put a spare tire on and drove on it, spare tire was not original and was slightly a different circumference so the ABS module kept thinking that the tires are slipping or spinning and went crazy. After clearing/resetting the abs module, everything back to normal.

yeaa, going through the same process... don't really wanna get into replacing the abs pump or module if theres another easier fix first that was triggering other codes and systems to shut down.. def good info though!!

when i had my abs issues, i stopped by a local brake shop and they scanner the codes and cleared them for $25, much cheaper than the dealership.

ABS has its own special scanner--dealer or brake shop or good tech will own one

if you're around western ma, I can reset those codes for you for $20. There is also a paper clip way of doing it if you want to try to retrieve the abs codes yourself.

OOPS, it seems hitting the ignition key with your knee will also cause issues.....so they say.

Better slide the seat back some more !
