2002 TL Side Trim Peeling!

The entire driver side of my 2002 TL has the side trim's paint peeling!

I'm not even sure that's what the piece is called, but here is what it looks like:

And yes I know my car is dirty, the weather is really up and down so I'm waiting for it to calm down before I wash it. I cleaned the section so that you could see it better!

I was thinking of just sanding it and painting it with the dupli-color paint, but I'm not sure if it would look good. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Is that the only part of your car that has paint issues? If it is, I would just paint it. It's not very difficult.

Its the only problem spot. The hood has two very small spots and the front bumper has some traded paint from an accident the previous owner was in.

Do you have any idea how to get it off? Is it just clips?

looks like the moulding was wrapped with a clear protector.

As for the traded paint.... show pictures.

There are ways to remove paint transfer i.e. polish/claybar

Yeah,.....it appears that the moulding may have been refinished previously, and that the clear top cote is not adhering properly. This could possibly been the result of poor preparation.

Anyhow, for attempting to repair now....mask off the surrounding metal and wetsand the moulding to smooth out the imperfections and peeling paint, then let dry and wipe down with some mineral spirits. If the base color is still good, try spraying some fresh clear over the moulding. Worth a shot !

So I'm understanding that I don't need to remove the piece to paint it?

And here is the paint from the fender bender:

Also, the fog lights are on the way!

For those wondering, I'm 17 and just got the car. I've recently discovered this forum and I'm finally getting in to fixing it up! I don't take bad care of my car!

You could have done the lexan glass mod rather than blowing money on the whole housing. You should go to the 2g TL DIY mod thread and see the goodies there.

BTW, are you sure that's paint transfer, if it is then just buff it out.
If the accident actually removed paint try getting some touch up paint, or live life and move on. Front bumpers always take a beating from debris.
