2002 tl p1457

Hi!

I know it's a common problem and that other threads have been opened before but I need info anyways

I have just replace the '17310-S0X-A02 Vapor Canister Purge Valve'. Also when we remove the gas cap we hear the whoosh sound so that tells me i should not have leak... But the code came back 2 days later... Anything else I can try before I take the car for a smoke test at the mechanic?

Thanks for any help

If you don't have it then download the Service manual here

Starting on 11-213 will give you some testing ideas. If you don't have a vacuum pump and multimeter then you might be better off taking it in to a shop rather then replacing random parts.

(QUESTION) Two months ago, my 2003 TLS, 233K, produced the P1457 code. Months prior to the CEL code, I noticed, when removing the fuel filler cap, there was no vacuum related "whoosh" sound, none. Replacing the fuel filler cap with a new OEM cap, made no difference. After the P1457 code, I tested the Purge Valve, and it was working properly. However, there was considerable rust build-up on the metal parts of the valve itself. I changed out the 17310-SOX-A02 Purge Valve, reset the ECU, and in the resulting 2,000 miles, have had no repeat issues. Since replacing the valve, periodically, and always when fueling the car, i pay particular attention to the sound, when removing the fuel cap. There is definitely SOME vacuum in the system, when I remove the fuel filler cap, But Not Much! Instead of a "whoosh" sound, I detect more of a pssst sound. Checking all EVAP related hose connections, did not reveal any faulty hoses, or hose connection issues. My QUESTION is, lets say on a 10 scale, one being no sound, and ten being a very strong "whoosh" How much of a "whoosh" sound does a healthy EVAP system on our 14-15 year old cars produce?

Healthy would be anything that doesn't trigger an EVAP leak CEL.

That being said, The whoosh on mine is noticeable if you are listening for it. An empty tank will have a more pronounced rush of air than a full tank.
