Question 02 TLS with VSA ! check engine and PO325

Ok,
the wife's 02 TL-S 117k miles (2nd trans) all the sudden pops on the VSA light with combination of check engine light just sitting (engine on) out side my work.
She kind of freaks out. I resist the urge to stress but have developed some concern.
Now,
I come to this forum and read about the OBD II scanner, which i get my hands on and scan the system, and get this code PO325.
(Knock Sensor)

The car runs fine, I have checked the ATF (no burn smell) fluid still pretty pink on the blotter test. I do a fresh set of pads and rotor turn on the rear brakes before a road trip up to Los Angeles, no problems all the way up and back.

At startup all the normal dash lights come on and go off with the exception of the "check engine light" the check engine light stays on full time now. After a short distance the ! and VSA light pop back on and stay on steady.

So I'm figuring that i will change out the knock sensor per the OBDII scanner, but thought I would ask you guys out there for your input on what may be the issue outside the knock sensor.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

dont expect the codes to be the answer- they are CLUES
not diagnosis!!!
Get the codes read again at a local parts store- see what they come up with

Ok,
after some "shade tree" mechanic work.

I can only say that the "!" and VSA lights come on at or around 50mph.
Even the OBDII code is still p0325.

We will be taking it to the dealer for a better Diagnosis and correction of the SRS light that has been on for a bit.

I will keep the forum posted on the results.

The VSA light (TCS for those with out VSA) will often come on with the CEL. It doesnt mean there is something wrong with the VSA. If you are getting that code its probably a good idea to have the Knock sensor looked at. (it has been a problem with a few to have a rodent make a nest by it and chew thru it) It could also be caused by bad gas (87-89 octane)

Ok,
I replaced the knock sensor.
The wire had been eaten by a rat. No joke it was for real.

The little bastard had set up a nice cozy spot in the engine. Well he is dead now.
When I went in to replace the wire for the sensor the top of the knock sensor came off and then it was time to replace the sensor.

The moral of this story is that the Rat ate the line story is true.
and replacing the knock sensor is a MAJOR pain in the ass, but I did it took five hours and saved a ton of $$.
no more code and the car is running great.
additionally the SRS was repaired by the dealer, it only took two trips to them to get it right but not a penny out of pocket outside the cost of the wire ($5 from my indy)and $45 for the sensor

now just a couple little issues left. front passenger wheel bearing, trunk latch, driver side window switch.

good luck to all and thanks for the input and this great website....

TRIX out......
