PIC REQUEST: VIP TLs & VIP mods

Howdy all!

In my search for mods and whatnot, my attitude it leaning more towards a VIP look, and after searching the net, I thought I might get some suggestions here on what's considered VIP for our cars, and what products are out there that'll work for the 2G TL. Both interior and exterior shots are welcome!

To me, VIP means something that makes the car look FAR more luxurious than it really is, or maybe even something that makes the car quieter. I don't know if that's the generally accepted definition of VIP, which is why I'm comming to y'all

If you know of an item/mod that's VIP but don't have pictures, please still mention it.

I guess I'll get the ball rolling with a couple of pictures from my limited selection...

Puddle Lights:

Wald Portofino Rims:

That's about all I have from my list of things I've seen people call "VIP". I like 'em personally, but what I'm trying to really get at is, what IS VIP?

Well in the end I've LOVE my next car to be very VIP, but I'm not a rich man and can't do EVERYTHING. That's why I'm hoping to get a sense from the community on what exactly is VIP and what's not. Sometimes I feel there's a fine line to be drawn between VIP and rice - for example the puddle lights, some like 'em some don't.

Anyways, what I'm now hoping to get out of my next car is amazing looks, ultra quiet performance, while making it as reasonably powerful as possible without having to sacrifice the first two requirements. I'm hoping a list like this can put things into perspective for me and then I'll start looking into what's possible and what's not.

you say you're not a rich man, but you made a thread with a plan to put $12k in mods in a $10k car.

There've been several threads over the years which feature a single car, and some threads which focus on a particular mod (ie. puddle lights), but I don't see any threads like this in recent times which are about the various VIP mods that can be done to our cars.

I didn't say I'd be doing any and all of these mods myself, nor did I say I'd be spending $10,000 on mods to my next car. The retail value of most of those mods would probably work out to around that, but as I said in that thread I have no intention of paying full retail for most of it and will do whatever's necessary to find cheaper prices when it comes time.

Plenty of informative posts over there about what true VIP style is, learned slot over there myself

With our 2nd gen tl's it's rather difficult to achieve VIP by the true defition of it , but plenty of 2nd genners have come reallll close to VIP styled
Some examples off the top of my head were duy, mild7blues, maylee king, rolinacura19's, I'm sure there's plenty more that I've left out... Sorry guys no offense like I said jus shootin off the top of my head

I luv 'em!

But if you have links to others that maintain that supposed VIP feel please post!

To be honest, I don't know WHY the Portofinos are supposed to be "VIP rims". I love their look, but other than who makes them and their price tag, I don't know what seperates them from other rims to classify them as VIP.

Not necessarily. A lot of the stuff I had linked to in that thread was expensive big brand name stuff (ie. Comptech), but I could always get cheaper stuff for far less so long as it'll do a similar job.

Anywys yeah, even though the 02 TL-P that I have right now is my first car, it's not the car I want. It just happened to be the car I picked up because that's all I could afford at the time and I needed a car. Now that I definately know I want to stay with a 2G TL for years to come, that's why I'm going to switch over to the A-Spec and that's why I'm willing to invest some money into upgrading it.

Well I'd already searched around this forum and tried random google searches, and I still couldn't nail down exactly what would constitute "VIP" on our cars. I saw a lot of very nice looking TLs, but there were a lot of random mods and looks to each car. I figured a thread on the subject would be the best way to nail it down.

Thanks for the link as well, I'll be browsing through it tonight.

I don't like driving manual, so that won't be an option for me.

As for the SC, from what I've learned thus far it defiantely looks like something I'm interested in. Who knows what I'll finally decide to do when the time comes... it is still several months away...

Anyways, we're getting a bit OT here... back to VIP TLs

lol, well this thread isn't just about what *I* should be doing to my next car, it's just about VIP TLs in general.

As for air suspension, I've already considered it but from what I understand it doesn't last nearly as long as a good set of coilovers, the handling isn't as good as coilovers (some have said it's possible if properly tuned), and the cost is a LOT higher. So nah... no air ride for me

first off there is no such thing as a "VIP TL" just vip styled/inspired. I suggest you read up on the definition of what a true VIP car is and learn about the history and tuning style. With that being said here is pretty much the gold standard when it came to vip styled TLs

Well I couldn't really find anything that gave me a straight definition of a VIP car, but I'd already browsed through several websites demonstrating VIP-style vehicles from a variety of manufacturers.

As for the cars pictured, very purdy... I do notice that pretty much all VIP-styled cars I've seen thus far have the visors on 'em... I'd never really thought about it as something I'd consider classy.

One question though, since I've seen this on other "VIP cars" why is it that the tires seem to stick out at an angle? Is that just due to the nature of them having air ride and the bags are deflated in those particular pics? Or is there something else at play here?

These cars are setup with air ride suspension. What you are seeing in the pictures is when the cars are fully dropped/dumped. Basically the air ride setup allows them to go lower then anyone else since they have the option of raising the car. It's a look and style all its own. The overall objective is to get the car as low as possible with the most tire tuck.

Both the white car and black car in the pictures above are running air ride suspension by a company called air runner. Check them out if you want further details.

Yeah I've already looked into air suspensions, I was just curious if the way they were sitting with the tires at an odd angle was due to that, or if something else was going on (ie. funky rims or something).

yes and no
the reason the wheels are at an odd angle (lots of camber) is because thats the only way they can get so low with the tires still under the fender.
try to imagine what it would look like it if the wheels were flat. and then you'll get it.

^^ that was Chirag's car.. his interior was fucking pimp!!

to the OP, if you want a "VIP" Style TL do the following:

1) get expensive rims atleast 8.5" wide with a nice lip.
2) get a lip kit [preferably OEM].
3) SLAM the fuck out of it.
4) get the VIP ropes on your rear view mirror.
5) keep the car very clean.

thats it, ur basically done and everyone will drool. thats my opinion..

you forgot

6) buy everything you can from junction produce

and he's getting an aspec so lip kit and spoiler are already taken care of.

really all you need is slammage or baggage and rims.
then just a bunch of little accessories.

Would I have to do anything to the car for 8.5" rims to fit? I was actually thinking 7.5"...

This is where I'm a bit confused. I've read that the A-Spec comes with the "aero kit"... is that the same thing as the OEM kit, or different? From memory, they look pretty similar.

3) SLAM the fuck out of it.
I'll try!

4) get the VIP ropes on your rear view mirror.
... wha?
Any pics of this?

5) keep the car very clean.
Will do. There're very good instructions on this site on how to properly care for the car
