What headunit are you using?

I've searched and searched and as the 2nd Gen has no audio forum, I've come up a little blank.

I'm curious as to what HU you guys are all using and how they've worked out for you so far. Maybe a breif write up on cost, reliability, cool features...etc. I think this would be helpful for people like me who are in the market for a HU that aren't audio guru's. Pics would be awesome too...so let's see those HU's!

I love alpine units but all the newer models did away with the auto face. The swingface was great.

Eclipse makes nice decks. I am using a Pioneer Premier 860MP. The animated display is awesome and you can even upload your own avi movies into the deck! Many great SQ features on the deck if your into that sort of thing. It is an older model I think they are up to the 890 now. Alpine makes excellent decks too. Can't really go wrong with the main name brand decks just get the one that fits your price and what features you want. Best buy is a little overpriced but sometimes they have some good sales and you can get a good deal. I would recommend buying from a store or ordering from crutchfield cuz if you get if off ebay or some random website a lot of time the company will not warranty it.

Thanks for the link...exactly what I was looking for. Some reason I couldn't find it in the search .

I'll most likely pick up the Alpine through Crutchfield unless my buddy at Al & Ed's can get me a better deal. Already have amp/subs hooked up w/ a Blitzsafe adapter...but the first owner royally screwed up the wiring. Figure I'll buy the new HU, re-wire all the speakers and finish this long overdue project. Time for new door speakers too...I believe I'm running 6.5 Polk Audio's that they first owner installed...not 100 percent sure though. Left driver's speaker is not working and right driver's crackles

The rest of the car was beautiful when I bought it - OEM body kit, debadged, perfect body/interior...little did I know the stereo was

Interesting. Maybe I'll go this route...I'm assuming this would be cheaper too, correct?

The stock speakers are ok but a good set are way better IMO. Depends on how much money you want to spend though.

if you tune it right and you have a good head, forget the door speakers really not worth it....i've tried about 3 different types, and stock is better, just put in a sub, and tune the entire system, and it will sound great....trust me.....

they are the worst POS speakers ive heard......... I threw in 20$ pair of speakers for grins and they sounded alot better (had to take them out to install in redneck neighbors 79 firebird along with his sony explode 6x9's

A good pair of speakers (separates) will blow the stockers out of the water. Tuned/adjusted properly (adding a amp really helps)

Yeah, the dude before me installed the polk audio's running off of a POS no-name 75 watt amp that he wired himself (badly).

It's hard to believe the stocks sound better than aftermarket...what door speakers are you guys running? The Polk's (well, just one of them now) have a decent high end output IMO...

Already have the sub -- 2 10" JL W3's I believe (they're old school, can't remember the model)...600 watt Alpine amp.

i had set of kicker ks from my old car, that were used for a few months before i wrecked it, a set of kicker ss , and a set of pioneers that my find had so i tried em and still the stock speakers were able to handle more bass, the vocals sounded a little bit better using the other speakers but i couldn't turn the volume up past 25......(my head goes up to 30max)....or it would sound like ....even with the the bass turned down, and the "loud" off.....

also i just checked it out kris, the 99-01 have a different part number for the speakers, remember i have an 03, maybe they were upgraded, , but trust me i've heard the diferences and after all the bs i would stay with stock speakers.....and if you have a good head you don't need an amp for the door speakers.....mine is a 200x4 peak, 50 per channel, and if i remember right it was a 40-45 rms, unless you put some crazy shit in the doors you don't really need more than that....

Yeah...I don't need (or want) a huge, pounding system. I'm just looking for something that sounds good w/ a little extra kick...I have the kick, I just need the "sounds good" part. Damn, I can't wait to get this done.
