weight relization

Thinking about it, I have a 99 tl I/H/E. Its definitely a pretty quick car, possibly a HIGH 14 second car. The engine has potential, but what makes it a quick and not a fast car is that they weigh over 3400 lbs. I have removed the spare and jack already. My question is if my car was just under 3000 lbs it would make the biggest difference in performance. Weight makes the biggest difference, but there just isnt anything that you can remove to make these cars lighter. Any ideas?

You realize the only weight difference you get by removing the spare and jack, is whatever you weigh, because your ass will be walking when you get a flat.

Leave those in the car and buy lightweight wheels, it makes a world of difference.

EDIT- the back seats weigh a whole 10 pounds so removing those is pointless too

TL= not a good racecar lol

back seat. all the sound deadeneing material in doors and the trunk as well as under your floor. lose the heavy stereos. replace the seats with racing seats. you could even remove the airbags and get a roll cage with some good 6 point harnesses for our seats

The I/H/E already saved you a decent amount of weight. Some aftermarket suspension setups weigh less that OEM as well. Get lightweight rims. Unsprung weight makes more of a difference when it comes to weight reduction.

This isn't really the car to "gut" but whatever makes you happy.

If you remove airbags, and you wreck the car, insurance does not cover it.

Ok, I got it. For every 1/8 inch hole I drill out on my car it reduces .025 of a lb. So, if I start now I will have drilled one million holes by the age of 50, and my car will weigh about 3 lbs. I calculated the results on a quarter mile calculator and with about 200 whp my car will run 1.437 sec. in the quarter mile.

get a crx and build that. Low 14 sec car for you. Then you can keep the tl and pimp it out on club nights.

what would be considered launching the car but u have to learn your car. if u rev it too much and the wheels spin your going to get a slower time, try it a couple times at diff rpm.

look at the rpm and remeber it for the next time so u can improve or adjust the rpm up or down. basically u hold the brake give it gas and look at what rpm your launching at, and when the light turns green, let off the brake, make sure u turn TCS or VSA OFF
