UR crank pulley problem
UR crank pulley problem
I'm hoping someone here who has experience with the UR pulleys can help me.
I just got through installing the UR OE size crank pulley on my TL. We also did the timing belt and water pump. The pulley was installed using an impact wrench that maxes out at 175 ft. lbs. The crank pulley slightly wobbles, I'd say maybe a 1/16 of an inch, if that. I'm also hearing an odd noise my car didn't have before, which I attribute to the slight wobble.
Did I get a defective pulley or should I remove it, re-seat it and torque it down properly? Has anyone had this type of issue before?

Mistake #1 is using an impact gun, first the torque is incorrect and second it probably caused the key in the crank snout to jack into the pulley causing it to not sit right which is the reason for the slight wobble.
Guns should only be used for removal, torque wrenches are for install.
While there is always a slim chance something else was wrong with the part its not likely.
Everything needs to be removed and inspected before re-installing as there may be damage that is beyond repair from the incorrect install.

was the pulley fully seated before you tightened it down??? it should have just slipped on there (and you rotate at the same time, to make sure the key way is lined up properly and it is fully seated)
next did you also do the idler bearing and tensioner bearing when you did the t/belt??? if not, they should be done also

Fully seated the pulley before tightening the bolt. I hope I didn't screw the pulley up, damn thing was $200. I guess I'll find out this weekend when I get a chance to work on it.
Idler and tensioner bearing were also done as well as the hydraulic tensioner since the old one was leaking. The water pump had started to develop a slow leak too so it was changed just in time. Even if it hadn't been leaking I was still going to replace it.

just wanted to make sure it was not shot bearings possibly making those noises
but anyways i have personally tightened my ur underdrive pulley down a couple of times with an impact, and no issues from it
but anyways how did you remove the bolt in the first place???, just throwing this out there, maybe you tweaked the head of the bolt, so it did not tighten the pulley down evenly
, since mine has only ever been taking off with an impact (3/4" one though, and even that struggled the first time lol)

It actually came off pretty easy. My friend has a Snap-On impact that took it off without any problem. I figured if the impact was rated at 175 ft lbs max it would be ok to use to tighten the bolt since the torque spec is 181 ft lbs.
