TL vs. TL-S CT Icebox

Have you guys notice that the TL-S Icebox is quiter than the TL-P version? I just installed the icebox on my TL-S and it's really sounds stock. It has the same set up as my TL-P with CT Headers.

Just wanted to see if you guys notice this diffrence in sound. Also, the TL-S icebox has a black tube that seems to be a resonator, which the TL-P version don't have, could this be the reason why it's so much quiet?

Thanks for your input!

It just is... I have both cars with same set up... and the TL-P Icebox is louder than the TL-S. The only diffrence I see is that there is a small box right under the tube that goes between the Air box and the TB.

It might be a resonotor, therefore making it quieter... I will be calling comptech this morning when I have a chance. I just thought someone here would have notice it, and have a comment for me over the weekend.

Laterz!

I'm just back to post my findings for other memembers who might have this same doubt. I was at the CT website looking for their numbers, and decided to take a peak at the intallation instructions for both the TL-P and the TL-S for the icebox, and my doubt was answered.

I have posted both PDF links... if you look at the "Parts list" for the TL-S installation you would see "1 - Inlet Air tube w/ resonance chamber" The TL-P parts list only shows and Inlet Air tube. I guess if you wanted the same sound as the TL-P you could just swap that middle section.

Thanks!

well maybe its this doesn't the tl-s have a higher redline than the P?

so maybe its just the engine reving higher and sucking a lil more and thats what the diff is ?

just a guess

The diffrence is clearly the resonator on the TL-S Icebox model. If I were to swap this middle tube, I'm sure it will be as loud if not louder on the TL-S. The purpose of this resonator is to keep things quiet, same principle for the exhaust resonator and even the stock air box resonator.

Thanks!

This is ghetto rigging, I took a resonator tube off and inserted a plastic cap from a bleach bottle into the hole and clamped it down. It worked like a charm.

I don't think so.... but do you guys feel that this resonotor might reduce the air flow or decrease performance gains?

By doing that don't you get a lot of drone/buzz? The resonator was put in place not only to keep things quiet, but primerly to elimanate the drone cause by the Type-s set up when adding the icebox.

So, would you say there's a way to silence the TL-P Icebox?

Perhaps by adding a similar type resonotor to the TL-P, it might have the same results as the TL-S icebox. I have linked another thread on which I posted pictures of both my TL-P and TL-S.

Ahhh, good pics. I think I know where the resonator WOULD attach on the TL-P... that part is just like a solid knob right? I guess you'd have to drill it out to attach something.

So i have an ice box with the resonator, did we figure out if there was anypoint in removing it and is it only for louder sound or may there be an actually performance gain to this
