What bypass mod? You mean removing the coolant lines from the TB?

Gains are increased response. If you live in a cold climate, might not be safe to do it.

I believe that you just remove the inlet/outlet and connect them together.

its in the directions for thermoblock install --iirc

optional to do it with that mod,,but not needed in general for street drivers

yes its like bypassing a bad heater core- the hoses have to get connected together so the coolant still flows thru them, not blocked at the end

here is the diy list--spend a few hours going thru it for way more than you want to know about modding or working on the TL
saves posting new threads on old subjects

I've done this before and didn't really notice much. Maybe a little, but not enough to change it over every 6 months. It's very easy to do, but only should be done in warm weather. If it's cold your TB will freeze up and that just sucks ass in the winter. Best way to do it is to disconnect both hoses going to the TB and get a larger diameter hose, put the two hoses that were on your TB into the larger hose and using hose clamps tighten it just enough so you can't pull them apart. You don't want to overtighten and restrict the coolant flow though. Run the engine up to closed loop and check the hoses to see if anything is leaking. After a longer drive check them again. I would check mine every day for about 2 weeks and if all was nice and dry I'd stop.

We all gotta start off somewhere.

One year ago, I attempted my first DIY when replacing my low beams. I almost created an account JUST to ask how to disconnect the battery. Seriously.

Naw dude, you just met the dark side of the moon. Tom is usually pretty welcoming/helpful to the newcomers. It's me that yells "Read the effing owner's manual!!!"

Here's the master DIY list: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=706083

Here's the thread Tom was talking about: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/diy-thermoblok-spacers-install-egr-cleaning-615644/

That thread will basically show you how to remove the intake manifold and the throttle body. You just need to remove the two hoses connecting to the throttle body, and connect them together.

There are DIYs on it. If you use the advanced search button and type "coolant bypass" then select 2g tl you will get many responses.
One of many.

why? any thread that ask the user to initiate some action on their own,,rather than hold their hand and explain,,,, again,,,,how to do something thats already well covered??? sucks??
Point them -link them if possible, direct to DIY section,,,
teach them how to `fish azine` and,,,,they will make fewer post on covered subjects

a safer option is one of the thermal heat spacers for the TB, which also lengthens the the airflow distance,,a slight bonus while retaining cars driveabilty

to maximize the reduction of heat absorbtion in the manifold- there are 2 excellent makers of spacers,
the heat radiating UP from the engine into the manifold is more hurtful than the TB heater system
