s2000 Start button

well ive looked at the threads about the install but havnt seen a finished product so my buddy has a extra start button from his s2000 so im going to take that and install it in the tl. i see in the rsx they mount them in the cigarette lighter hole. so i think it would be pretty unique to put it in our cigarette lighter since it has that little door that makes it discrete ( http://images.thecarconnection.com/s...00004501_s.jpg )

now a lot of people i talked to about this said that since its a oem honda part that a relay would not be needed. just hook the ign. signal wire from the button to the ign signal wire in the car most likely under the steering column. but reading on other forums besides the civic forum they all used relays.

so if your gonna hook it up the the ignition wire. thats still not gonna start the car. u need the key in the ignition. its a lot more complicated then hooking up a button.

and if u have the key in the ingnition the whole time, anyone can start the car if they know where the start button is.

and if u put the key in, push start car, take key out to turn it off. the start button is pointless bc u still have to do the same process as if u had no start button and ur adding a step to the process of turning on the car

so with no key in the ignition, the cars gonna starts to who ever goes in it? bc thats not a good idea. and if u put the key in the acc mode and then push the button its, stupid, bc why not just turn the key a bit more and start the car? rather then do all that and push a button?

Shouldn't the car start only when the key is INSIDE the car, not just by keeping it in the glove box or somethin

I always thought the idea was to not have anyone be able to start the car.....

It's the same concept of hiding an uncut ignition key near the ignition switch. But I agree with the others, if someone figures out they can start your car without a key, it's :thief:

Lol naw there would be no way I would not have the key be used I don't even think that's possible without heavy modifitcation... With our cars having a immobilizer chip the car wouldn't start unless the key is in the ign. I'm doing this just mainly for the custom factor blah blah I know turn the key and it starts but once I'm done I think this is going to be a cool mod IMO it was free sue me lol

But what is the point of adding an extra step. To me it would get tiresome to put key in ignition, turn it to run, then reach over and push a start button. Especially a button you want discretely hidden as to not show it off?? The only time a start button is worth it is when the car has it set up where no key is required (using remote cards to activate immobilizer)

I think its a cool idea in a sence that adding this extra step just adds more security to your car beeing jacked. but then at the same time if anyone was to jack a Tl, or a cl, should allready know how to hot wire, so yes i agree sounds like an extra step, but its still a cool showoff trick.
I would do it once i see the DIY.

is their any way to have the keep in the ignition and on the run setting, but with the chip removed. so maybe some how when u have the chip on your key chain or something, it would send a signal and than u can push button start the car. just an idea. not sure if the signal will be that strong to reach 2-3 feet.

i was thinking about doin that rajca it would be a lot of work tho lol im gunna keep it simple and do it so the key needs to be in the ign and set to acc 2 and now that i think about you move your hand to the shift knob to put the car in gear so move you finger a bit and hit the button should be a nice bullshit mod lol

hmm, seems like the immobilizer part would cause a hiccup with this, but good thought though..S2000 in this 90 degree weather here would be great right about now

Get a transponder from an Avalon with its receiver and wire the receiver to a relay on the push-button circuit, or even a main ECU ground circuit. Put the Acura key transponder in your steering column so the ECU will always recognize the key in the car. This way the button only works with the Avalon transponder inside the car. However, someone can then simply hot-wire your car and take off if you wire it into the button instead of the ECU ground.

Also, I'm unsure whether the transponder signal from the Acura key, or the physical insertion of the key itself controls the no-lock situation (where the doors will not lock with the engine off and key in the ignition). If its the transponder signal, you'd have to find a way to bypass this to lock your doors.

do all that and push a button? lol its the same thing as an s2k but the s2k cant go in the 3rd position to start it on the ignition.
if you ask me honda needs to do what nissan does with the push button start, all you gotta do is be in the car with the key in your pocket and push the button. thats a true push button start because u never have to take ur keys out.

If the transponer signal is strong enough from the key then you could get 2 keys made. The first one get cut to go into the ignition but don't program it. Program the second key and don't cut it. Put the cut key in the ignition and make a faux knob cover so you can turn the key. If customed correctly you could probally leave the key in the car and keep the prog key in your pocket if it has the range. Just a thought.

Sounds like a lot of work to push a button.
But hey, whatever floats your boat. That's the cool thing about owning your own car. Do it the way you want.
