DIY: Engine Start Button

Engine Start Button:
1) remove the cover around the steering wheel(there are two screws...well at least on my car)

2) remove the screw by the key mechanism:

Size: 55.9 KB
3)you will be working with the yellow wire and the black/white wire
yellow wire is your constant power and the black/white is the power to the button when the key is second position.

you will be using crimps like these to connect your engine start button:

4)find location for your button, connect the wires and mount them

Thats it and you're done! now when you put your key in second position can start the car with the button or the key!

sorry missed a part: On your engine start button there should be 2 wire connectors, thats where you'll connect the wires you bypassed in part 3.
With this mod you can use the key or the button;if you want to just use the button you ll need to cut the yellow ,black/white wire and connect it to the button.

I relocated it next to the steering wheel; to the side bottom.

nice DIY, the location for the star button is really bad, and would be nice is the car just start with button that way you can hide the button so no one can robbed your vehicle.

Good point. Let me understand this, you have to put the key in, turn it to engine, not crank it, but instead use the engine start?

I really want to do this, too.

KrayzieDxC, you must do a DIY for us....please....how much was the S2000 switch? Where did you buy it?

ENGINE START S2000 BUTTON DIY
Parts I used:
  • 1 Genuine Honda S2000 starter button. Part number 35881-S2A-911 (can be ordered from HandA-Accessories.com for $33.14 + s/h)
  • 1 SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) Relay 30 Amps/12 Volts (you can buy this at any auto store or alarm/radio install shop. Make sure it is a SPDT 30Amp/12V relay)
  • A floppy drive power connector (will explain below why you need this. You can either yank it out of your old PC or buy it for pennies at any PC shop)
  • A crimping and wire cutter tool
  • Some 12 and 18 gauge wire
  • Some male/female Quick Connectors
  • Two ring connectors (for ground connections)
  • Electrical tape

Well if you follow pictures correctly i think you can do it without the steps..

sorry im just kinda lazy to rip it out of what i did..if you need help just ask

as for the button where to put it ..you can put it anywhere.

you can follow his steps here and use my diagram to set it up
