Replacing stock brakes

02 TL...67K miles on my stock brakes!! It's time to replace them and i'm thinking about going with the Brembo blanks and the Akebono ProACT Ceramic pads all around.

I'm starting to get some vibration when braking at highway speeds. so i'm thinking of replacing the rotors as well.

Looking for a solution of rotors and pads that are similar to the stock setup. I've been very satisfied with the stock setup, even when pushing the car.

Any thoughts?

Brembo and Akebono is a good setup. If you were satisfied with stock, your new setup will give you better satisfaction.

Thanks,

I might just leave the stock rotors on and replace the pads with the Akebono pads because the vibration is not too bad.

Dont. Your rotors are warped and replacing the pads wont solve it. Get the brembo blanks and new pads.

Either that or see if you have enough rotor left to have turned. But either way i wouldnt leave the stock rotors on.

Yeah get rid of the stock rotors...period.

I just installed a ROtora slotted/EBC greestuff combo.

No complaints here and they bite much better than stock.

Any squeaking noises, esp at LOW speeds or "creeping" along @ a stop light?

No squeaks here. Even when creeping. EBC has a break in coating on the pads. I also put stop squeak on the pads before bedding them in.

Brake rotor is a heat sink, cutting it will reduce its ability to store thermal energy and likely to make rotor to be "warped" again.

Rotora slotted seriously feel much better, I had really warped stock rotors and after you change em out, you won't regret it. Just bed them in right, mine shudder really lightly where it's barely noticeable but that's cause my caliper bolt fell out while I was breaking them in and it fucked up the process.

What do you apply the stop squeak to?

The metal shims on the brake pads that contact the caliper.

Thanks guys, I just ordered the brembo blanks and the Akebono pro pads. I'm pretty easy on the brakes anyway so I don't think the slotted will help me too much.

A rock recently shattered one of my fog lights, so I'm going to replace the stock glass with the lexan replacements from ebay while i've got the car in the air anyway.

BTW,...I'm still pissed at DC, cause when I moved into the city from VA I had to remove my money ass 35% tint that looked sweet as hell. It killed me to sit at the inspection station and rip the tint off. oh well the price of living in the city.

Thanks Again...

Exclamation Possible Sources

It would be really cool if you guys would list sources for these brembo and other brake parts. It seems everyone is in the know, but myslef. I have read the forums and found little sources for my '03 TL (brakes, rotors, etc). Anyone have a prefered vendor or list of better online sources?
Thanks,
WD

I put on Power slot sloted rotors all around and replaced the front pads with Hawk HPS ceramic pads. I am very pleased with the set up so far after 7500 miles. But i cannot find the Hawk pads for the rear. Has anyone else gone with this setup? Let me know about your experiences. good or bad? I have no more noise than stock. But i do have more brake dust (cleans with a wipe of a rag since it is ceramic), also a little shuttering during brake warm up. Much better stopping and peddle feel.

Has anyone put on stainless steel lines, if so any better peddle feel and heat disapation (i cant speel), and most importtant is it worth the time and money?

also is it worth it to bleed the lines and replace with a higher DOT? if so any better peddle feel?

If you have done many brake jobs, what has worked best for you?

PS Use an impact screwdriver to remove those philips head screws (unless you want to strip them by using a regular screwdriver or air gun (it is mind bogling to me why you would use an air gun)), don't add any brake fluid (unless you are bleeding the system) the fluid level tells you if their is leak in the system (if a tree has not already told you), and always work sober on brakes.
