question on a cam shaft swap ???

I was told that the only difference in the TL and the TLS motor in 99 (3.2 ,s.o.h.c. v-tec) was a different cam shaft. I scanned through a bunch of threads and didn't see anything on it. so my question is if that is the case where do i get one new and what would a part and or model # be for it ......... Thanks

welcome to the forum

http://estore.honda.com or
http://acuraoemparts.com for discounts on the same parts

the cams are more aggressive in the type s, the type s also has higher compression and better TB and IM. you are probably better off just doing the engine swap. too much work IMO

^ +1...and also a slightly wider exhaust. But, , the motor swap will be a better option. Parts may end up costing as much, if not more than the motor, depending on where you look.

Question

Thanks for the info. i figured there was more to it than just a cam shaft. I did find a S motor for 800.00 w/80k is that a decent deal ,and will it bolt up to the 4-spd tranny thats in the car already? If so how would that effect the performance?

yes, look at 2000 tl's, they got the same motor as you, but a 5-speed though, so it will crossover no issues (minus wiring though some, but you would use mainly your stock harness though)

PCM will work basically the same as the type-s, non S, then also the 4 and 5 speeds, they are pretty interchangeable

but working fully, and relizeing the full potential of the type-s motor, NO since you will have to use that 4-speed PCM, which is not tune for that type-s motor, but you can get an AEM FIC to get back some of the potential there though, but you are still going to limited to like a lower redline and such though (and getting the IMRC is going to take a little bit more work to get it fully functional though, since if you do, it will have to be controlled by the FIC, and not the PCM)

let alone in essence already stock "ported" heads when you compare it to the non type-s heads (same head casting, just different machining iirc), and also you can't just take a type-s head and slap it on the non s bottom end, it has different pistons to clear the valves on the S head, so basically you be rebuilding the whole motor
so yeah a motor swap would be the easiest way of doing it
