Planning a track visit soon

Planning to bring the TL to the track when I go to NH in a couple weeks. Figure with the new headers I'd like to get some times, see what kind of trap speeds I can get. I'm hoping to get high 90's... wondering what some of you guys have run with either stock TL-S's or modified TL-S.

I'll be sporting XS headers and my ghetto airbox, plus a few weight reductions. My current baseline TL-S time is from when I ran against one in my old Maxima at the track. The timeslip is below. There was high humidity and low traction that night, as shown by the really bad 60' times. He was in stock form, so I'm planning on using 15.0 as a stock time for comparisons.

Anyways, lemme know any thoughts. Also if anyone is interested in goin to New England Dragway in NH in 2 weeks, let me know, that's when I'd be going.

don't expect anything too terribly spectacular from these cars. Mine is an '03 TLS w/ intake/headers/pulleys. The best so far this season has been 14.82 @ 94mph. Its kind of a disappointing car. People who have posted faster times than that are flat out using nitrous.

I'm rather surprised you can only pull a 14.8 @ 94 mph with your mods. Granted I havent yet actually taken my car to the track, but even if the time was high 14's I'd still imagine the trap speed would be closer to 97-98 mph considering the car (with headers, intake, pulleys in your case) should be making about 300 hp at the crank. That should be good for almost 100 mph trap speed.

I'm gonna strip the car down when I go, no seats except drivers, nothing in trunk, remove mats, etc... I feel like the car is capable of about 14.5 @ 97+, but we'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Thanks for the input though, I'm even more curious now!

why go through all that removing the seats and mats, etc? It's just a tl, not a civic hatchback...I don't think it will make that much of a difference.

It makes a difference. I ran my old maxima 4 or 5 different times, once with a fully removed interior. My best time prior to removing the interior was 14.6 @ ~95.5, when I took everything out, ran consistant 14.3's @ 97 or so. Enough other factors (weather, gas, mods, etc) were the same that the time difference I contribute mainly to the removal of weight. That front passenger seat isn't the lightest thing around, and removing spare tire, jack, tools, carpets, rear seats, etc adds up. General rule of thumb is removing 100 lbs takes off ~ 1/10 in the quarter. And a tenth is a tenth. Sure its not much overall, but I'd rather say "my car runs low 14's" (14.3 perhaps) than "my car run's mid 14's" (14.5 maybe). It sounds better right right?

Ok, too much work for me. Enjoy.

When are you going to NHIS? I plan on going within the next month. I have a 99TL w/I/H/E/P/S, and other small engine mods. We should meet up and go reek some havoc. PM me.

I'll be going to New England Dragway (is that the same as the speedway?) probably a week from Wednesday... august 16th I think it is? Should definatly come tho, the drags are always fun. I'm really really curious as to what my TL can pull. I have faith that it will be around 14.5 if driven right. It absolutely does not feel like a 14.9 second car, especially with the new headers on! Top end is significantly stronger than my old maxima and i hit 14.1 in that... so yeah, lookin forward to it!

dude I dynoed 227whp with just I/H. even with the pulleys the car won't do better than a 14.8. I'm getting cooling mods installed this weekend. The ecu pulls timing once the engine is heat soaked, so don't expect anything spectacular.

Other than spacers, what cooling mods are out there that'd help out with 1/4 mile times?

so assuming ~20% drive loss, your car makes around 285 hp at the crank. comparable to the G35 for example. this is making me even more curious about running the car though.

Also, I've run my TL in Cartest (not sure if anyone has seen the program, its real cool tho) and I get around 14.5 @99. The program used to predict about 0.2 seconds slower and 1.5 mph faster than what i'd actually run with the old car, so making the same assumptions, the TL *should* be capable of pretty good times and trap speeds.

When you ran, were you at higher elevation? i don't think you'd mentioned where the track was and the conditions ya ran in. Just curious...

cooling mods are: mugen or spoon thermostat, mugen fan switch, and radiator cap. comptech water wetter+fresh coolant. these mods allow the engine to run 20 degrees cooler, and theoretically, this prevents loss of power at the track.
