need to replace brake pads and rotors

Hi all,

I have a 2001 TL and the rotors and brake pads need to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for custom not so expensive rotors and brake pads. I was looking at ebay and was considering buying this:

or this:

Look at the top of the page, just under the AZine logo and you find the search button. Use it. This topic has been covered at least 1,743 times.

You'll find as many opinions as there are people on this forum.

Thanks DaveS221. I did some research and found that the slotted and drilled rotors are not really any useful if they are the same size and most of the driving is regular non racing driving. I will just go ahead and buy plain stock rotors and brake pads for my car.

id go with the ebc dimple and slotted rotors, and the hawk performance street pads. i got that up front and i love it. first 500miles or so i had some dust and squeaks but after breaking them in little dust and my rotors are holding up good. could see improved stopping distance. put about 8k on them already.

those are nice brake, but wrong for the OP stated needs of low key normal driver brakes.
Kragen has decent stuff for a good price. Dont expect anyone to have them in stock- may take a day or 2

If you buy your brakes & rotors at Kragen, make sure you get the Raybestos Advanced Technology rotors. They are very good quality rotors that are better than OEM IMO. They are manufactured better and are held to very stringent standards. Don't buy the cheaper crap rotors, you will regret it. As far as brake pads go, I'd say go with the Raybestos Quiet Stops (changing name to Advanced Technology too) or I've also heard very good things about Akebono Pro-Act Ceramics. Those will be my next set of brake pads when my current ones wear out.

Thanks for the advise everyone. I will checkout partsamerica.com ( Kragen ) to find some decent set of rotors and might get EBC green stuff as the brake pads.

Thanks again!

google search import replacement parts. i think its importrp.com, they gave a discount due to another item not being in stock. total paid $450 for front/rear EBC slotted/dimpled with EBC red stuff pads. so far really nice stuff. good luck with the stupid screws on the rotors and releasing the parking break thing on the rear....the hardest parts of the job!!

quick picts...car is really dirty

front

rear

somebody needs to paint their calipers big time!

The park brake is a mini set of drun brakes inside the center hub of the rear rotor.
Make sure park brake is off, then remove rubber plug from rotor and move opening to bottem of rotation- if too tight to slide the rotor off- thet are adjusted too tight, its the old school star wheel- turn it up to relax the tension

Use an Impact Screwdriver to get the screws out easy, drill them out with a titanium type bit if needed.

You've been here for less than a month. After you've been on the forum for more than a few months it gets very annoying to have the same question asked over and over, especially when the answer is easy to find through searching.

IMO, you shouldn't get the OEM rotors b/c they'll just warp again.

yep greased the hell out of everything but it has been raining like a mo fo here so some must have come off. i dunno. no squeeks. all i know is make sure you grease the hell out of the slide bolts(if thats what they are called). this was the first time i had done brakes on my car and they were rusted all to hell and to use a little effort to get them off. i will be re-greasing the back of pads again when i pull of the calipers for paint.

i have SSM....what color do you all think for the calipers? Black? I really dont wanna do red but i saw someone with a silverish color....looked nice.
