Looking for reasonably priced performance mods!

I just bought a 1999 3.2 TL with about 195k on the original motor and tranny, I love the car but I’m searching for ways to boost performance and sound a little bit. I would prefer recommendations that were not exorbitantly expensive and that I could do myself. I’m no master mechanic but I’ve done most of my past vehicles’ repairs/maintenance and am a fairly quick learner who’s always looking for new things to master! Thanks for the help!

define reasonably priced? define performance?

simply put; these are one of the hardest cars to gain performance on a budget.
you can boost the sound fairly cheap tho...you can do this by taking it to an exhaust shop and ask them to cut out the mid-mufflers and resonators and replace and weld straight pipe in its place.

Reasonably priced as in each mod would be a couple hundred bucks as I am a college student with a crap job. In terms of performance, I mostly would like it to be a little punchier and really “get up and go” as you would say. It doesn’t even have to be mods, for example if there were some things that could be cleaned or deleted that would help me out I would absolutely be open to anything like that! If it’s not easily possible I suppose that’s fine but I figured I’d just see what more experienced owners thought after reading a little bit on my own.

Thanks again!

it cost money to play!!!!
i dont think you'll find any sort of performance pipe for under $300. I wouldnt advise the cheap ebay headers for under $200.

What I think you're really looking for is weight reduction!!!!
Best of all, it's FREEE!!!!!!
taking out weight from the vehicle will improve acceleration, cornering, and braking...ALL FOR FREE!!!!

Good idea, what would you suggest first? I also saw something about taking the intake resonator off for better sound, does that seem like a solid idea? Would you suggest a cold air intake or RAM air intake on this car, and if so what brands?

Just start with a CAI. Spend the money and get an AEM V2 if you can.

Try upgrading spark plugs, and before you do anything major make sure you clean up your car and tune it as in like replacing oils and stuff. It would be a good investment to have it checked out for potential problems down the road like minor leaks and stuff. I’m sure you have already done these things but I wanted to chime in 😁. Also get ur tranny checked out I’ve got an 03 TL and had to have it rebuilt at around 100k miles

Absolutely, the transmission is mostly good, few fixable issues but I had a Honda with the same issues (lag mostly but some harshness going into gear) that ended up going away with a 3x3 fluid swap so I’ll have to do that soon and hope it goes away.
