Light Weight Pulleys

Does anyone here have experience with RALCO RZ light weight pulleys?

They say they get the same amount of HP as UR Pulleys... but for half the price!?

I tried the search function and it sucks!

Thanks,
Drew

A friend of mine (here lurking but doesn't post ) bought the ebay one for $20 and it works fine. No problems whatsoever.

Compared it side to side with the UR...and I couldn't tell much difference.

Another one of my friend's has the UR pulley. Driving both cars, they feel the same.

you dont want or need the full set on the TL
The crank pulley underdrives the ac slightly, as well as the ps and alt.
The weight loss at the crank is where you get the ~hp gain~, its not `new` hp, just the engine revs up to vtec way faster. The major weight loss is worth a figurative/comparative 8 hp
By running the pullies on the alt and ps you risk them being too slow for efficient operation-- at low gas saving rpm driving

Mount the crank pulley on the car, and the others on your desk as pen holders

Numerous CL members have used BOMZ brand for many years with no issue
I have no knowledge of the 20 buck pulley, but even I have a limit of belief

screw the cheap brands. The last thing you want is a cheap pulley that's not 100% true and end up shearing your crankshaft. Spend a little extra for the UR under drive pulley and you'll be happy with the performance and worry free.

I agree to buying quality brands/constructon
AND this alleged imbalance issue is an internet rumor

They make all the pullies from a `BILLET` of aluminum- thats a square compressed block of metal - placed in a computer controlled 3-D cutting and milling machine
Some hours later that square is now a pulley or a wheel or whatever you told the machine to make for you
When Its a CNC part- there is no tolerance for it being off weight or balance- its a cut-machined part!

Correct, but some of these manufacturers that are making these parts for cheap are also using older model CNC's that need constant maintence or the quality of the parts they produce is compromised. I know because I sell CNC's often at work and have run into issues with older ones.

Actually Tom, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I have actually installed some Ralco parts and they have not been machined properly. Certain holes were too large, others too small, parts were missing. UR pulleys are CNC machined and 0 gram balanced. It is possible for the cheaper pullies to be machined improperly. I guess some ppl don't mind taking a chance but as these cars get into the hands of younger consumers, the end cost sometimes can become more important than quality. I guess for me, a hundred dollars is worth the piece of mind. Ralco is distributed by a company in NY who markets it b/c they get it made very cheaply and offer big margins for their dealers. I tried it and I was highly disappointed. And when I contacted the distributor for information on installation and what parts should be included they told me to look at the B&M instructions and they didn't have parts to make it work. So basically they copied someone else's product and did a poor job of it. I guess some are willing to take that chance with a crank pulley.

I dont know who ralco or any of the other makers are and what the age of their machines and cutters are.
I am going off info from trusted ziners whi have bomz brand- I cant say about any others

Quality is what I am concerned with, as I said before- 20 bucks and expect any sort of quality?-
thats beyond my belief point of- too good to be true!

I thought the other pulleys were just for looks and had no effect on RPM's and what not...??

Not that I doubt you "01tl4tl" but can anyone else confirm or suggest not to install the other pulleys?

u dont need the other pulleys they are for show and weight reduction. I personally got the whole set cause it was only 100 bucks more (UR) and figured why not especially since it reduces weight. ill reduce weight anyway I can

for more than 600 watts- get the stock sized lightweight pully for the crank and dont change any others

Josh- Excelerate- had some in the stock size made custom from UR- so he would have them when people like you with big stereos want power as well
UR is the only maker of stock size lightweight.

The underdrive pulley doesnt spin the alt fast enough to make power to run the car and the stereo- thats why you go with stock diameter-

and it doesnt add hp, it frees up what the excess weight is robbing from you
