So I bought a SRI for my 03 TL Type S and it didn't fit at all. So I cut it up and eventually came up with a 5" pipe sliding into the oem intake hose then connecting the cone filter to that. Sounds great and seems to work well, but looks kinda retarded in my opinion. So then I got to thinking. What if I took out all the parts aka resonater in my front left bumper, replaced the stock airfilter in the stock air box with a k&n and just used that. It would look stock but wouldn't have anything connected to it in the bumper. Essentially it would be like this. From my engine, the oem intake hose connects with the stock air box. The airbox contains a k&n filter. The airbox then uses its intake tube which normally connects to the lower part, instead just pulling air from the hole in the lower bumper. I really don't see a difference with this vs a SRI and this would look a lot better in my opinion. Any ideas?

 

Welcome to Azine...... What youve done is remove your intake resonator. It is a mod that generally everyone on here does unless they buy a CAI. Good Job figuring it out though..... Look through the DIY thread and there are some more do it yourself mods in there

 

Essentially Yes! LoL Is there a gain at all from removing the intake resonator and throwing in a K&N filter? How does it compare with the icebox?
