Finally UR pulleys installed!!!!!

I had my UR crank & alt. pulleys installed yesterday that I bought from UglyPsyco. Install went perfect, no problems at all. Car felt a little more responsive at first, much smoother and idle was silky smooth. I did a tranny drain and fill with 6qrts honda z1 ATF, that made a nice difference in shifting. When I got home I disconnected my battery for 40mins while putting on some new exhaust tips after I reconnected the battery I took my car for a few runs and the power was noticeable there. It seems resetting the ECU helps to realize the difference in pulley diameter and weight thus increasing HP right away. Now I am not sure if I am feeling the full gain from the pulleys yet and I hope not, but it sure feels like I am. No headlight dimming problems at all, everything is as good or better than before. This is a great mod!

BTW, I could not believe how heavy the stock crank pulley was compared to the UR, even after reading about how much lighter UR is, it is still hard to believe how much a difference it is!

This is good news as I'm considering getting some UR pulleys also. So, you can feel the difference in throttle response, huh? I would imagine an equivalent increase in MPG should be forthcoming as well......... I'll have to try disconnecting the battery if/when I get them installed..........Enjoy your mod!...

my car is pulling harder and harder every time I drive it now, it's like getting headers all over again! Very very noticeable increase, throttle response is much better and low end power is much better. I can't believe I waited so long to get these on.

thats sweet. i cant decide whether to get the UR pulley first or the headers first. what do u recommend?

Did u just change the crank pulley or all of them? Is it worth changing them all?

always get headers first, then intake, then pulleys(only crank for power, others are more for looks, but probably net a small gain too), then spacer(OE thermoblo IM & TB spcaers) then 4ga grounding kit and maybe hyper voltage kit, exhaust only or sounds, lokks and few ponies, some say 1-2 but I bet its closer to 5crank HP.

I was thinking about pulleys too but was afraid of them cracking or just splitting. They are so light compared to the OEM pulleys.

Done, then UR Pulleys it is. I was curious, i want to do all these mods that you listed, do they have to be in that order? I was looking at OBX, and was going to do a full OBX exahust, from headers all the way to the mufflers. I hope it sounds good.

I think alot of members have had trouble with obx, basically a copy of CT....Do a search ive heard of both fittment and resonance problems on OBX headers.............If you can afford go Comptech all the way, or otherwise im happy with my Apexi WS2 good sound good look

hey sbuswell, did you get the Ultra S or Ultra Sc? does anyone have an opinion on whether the stock diameter, lightened UR pulley is a better option or should we just go with the underdrive, lightened UR pulley?

170-190 seems to be the going rate i have found aside from group buys.

i got the ultra S and I do believe there is a gain to be had from the underdrive as well as lightened weight. Ultra S is best choice for the largest gain. I paid 100.00 for installation of crank and alternator pulleys.

fsstyms1 you definitely should get one. gains are awesome, engine revs quicker and car overall feels smoother.

I see a lot of people do the crank pulley and I know some have said that the alt and p/s are just for looks and maybe a small gain. Are there any concerns with installing those? Does it bog down on the electrical system? I also read that one member had some squealing from the p/s pulley in cold weather...does anyone know why that would happen? I've done quite a bit of research on these and I can't find to many people that say the alt and p/s shouldn't be installed b/c of negative effects but I wanted to see if anyone here had any other info.

you won't be sorry with the ur pulley, i too feel the smooth responsiveness of my engine. seems to run through the gears faster. the one thing i hate about the mods is after awhile you get use to them & forget how it use to be. Know what i mean? If you plan on doing this mod yourself, make sure you have a powerful impact gun & some heat.

if you look at the UR website, they say that 80% of the power gain is from the lighter pulley vs. the stock one and the other 20% is from the underdrive. So if you get the Sc version (same diameter as the stock on just lighter) you should get nearly the same power increase and you wouldnt have to underdrive any of your other engine components. You need to get the Sc pulley if you have a high power stereo (600+ watts RMS) because the stock alternator wont be able to power everything.

So if I am stock as far as electrical stuff goes, I shouldn't have any problem with the alt pulley? Even with the Nav and all that other crap?

Did you do install yourself? I am planning on giving this a shot but I'm not sure how hard it's gonna be. Got any info or tips?

like i said your going to have to have a strong ass impact gun. even with that i had to apply heat to the fastener. I think they must use loctite or something simular 'cause that sucker didn't want to budge, but once it did the rest was fairley simple. Might be helpful to have a friend to help hold back the serpentine belt tensioner when installing your belt. Good luck

if you are stock, then get the underdrive pulley - Ultra S version because it will give you the most power increase.

Thanks for the info...I've been looking at it in the Helms Manual and think I should be able to do the install. Never done pulleys before but I'd never done headers or springs before this car and those both went smooth. Thanks again.

ive done the headers & the pulley, but not the springs. Are the springs something i could do myself without much trouble? Can you give me some pointers? tnx

Yeah, springs can definitely be done yourself. A little time consuming though. You'll probably need an extra set of hands for certain parts to make it a little easier but you could get it done by yourself with some patience. Make sure you have a spring compressor (not sure if that's exactly what it's called). All it does is compress the spring so that you can take the strut out. I have access to a garage that has just about any tool you'll ever need but you can rent them from an autoparts store. Overall, pretty easy to do.
