CAI's: AEM, Injen, Comptech and others

I am about to buy a intake for my 02 TL Type S, and cannot settle on which one I want to buy. I love the look of the Injen 1481B(lack), but it is pending California cert. AND uses oil to clean the air filter. The AEM 21-419 is a dry filter so it is better for the engine BUT AEM's website states that this CAI is for Type S' without fog lights. I know I don't have to remove the fog lights, but am confused on why the V2 will not fit, cuz it looks way better or why the short ram will not fit. The comptech is probably the most reliable with significant power gains but is a hard find or is over priced since the company went out of business, nor does it look any better than stock. Let me know what's up.

the tubing on the V2 is too small for the type-s so it wont fit. there are alot of threads on this if you search around you should find all your answers

You could wait a few weeks for the Comptech Icebox or go with the Injen CAI. The part # is RD1482. It hsould already have CARB approval.

PM me if you need one.

comptech is opening their doors again so if you want to wait a bit you can go for them. I dont know how the prices are going to be, but Excelerate may know.

Hi guys. I'm a freelance writer looking for a good, clean, well-modified TL type S to cover for Traction Magazine. After endless searching through acurazine's forums, I came across your car, Bendel. Would you be interested in talking to me about what all you've done? Feel free to send me a PM or email me, my addy is in my profile (or should be). Thanks.

I have been going through the same issues for my 03 and after conversations with the guys at Excelerate, I am going to get the Comptech, provided they can get one.

I say Injen. Comptech looks good and the risk of hydrolock seems to be a little less with it. I like the growl of the injen.

Its worth it. I had it in my last car as well as this one, you won't regret it.

I think if you do enough searching you'll find that the Injen and the Comptech are the most popular. Unless AEM has changed thier design I wouldn't go with it simply because it doesn't fit that well behind the fog lamp.(I had AEM before I changed to Injen).

i have a hybrid intake! injen CAI w/AEM dryflow. INJEN CAI because of great build quality, AEM dryflow because of superb filtration and my laziness of reoiling the injen filter. so far so good only thing is the AEM dryflow filter is kinda big so u have to squeeze it in there. but noticeable difference from adding intake as well as dryflow filter. dont worry about hyrdrolock unless your drive through ponds daily. the filter is right below the headlight so i dont see how u will hydrolock
