Brake Pad Interchangeability?

I'm looking for new brake pads to replace my obscene dusting, god-awful squealing EBC Greenstuff pads. One of the things that came to mind was- can I use the Aspec pads for the newer cars?

2002 TL-S Pad is 45022-S0K-A11
2004 TL Auto pad is 45022-SEP-A01

That leads me to believe they fit the same. The Akebono's on Rock Auto show ACT787 for both apps.

So, will the 04-08 Apsec Pads (08P89-SEP-200) fit the front & rear of my 2002 TL-S?

I need lower dusting and NO squealing, along with just a little more than stock OEM pedal feel. The Greenstuff pads give the latter, but the squealing is retarded.

Maybe I should try the Akebonos?

(Raybestos Premium rotors, BTW, but that might have to change, since the Greens chewed them up pretty good).

P.S. Couldn't turn this up in a search, but maybe that's because I suck at searching?

There is no reason your Green stuffs should be doing what you have.

Nonetheless, I have tried every trick in my 20yr car-working history to get them to stop squealing. They will for a few days, then it's right back to it. I'm done with them.

Acura Automotive.org gave me the same quick answer, but it's curious to me that 2002 and 2007 aftermarket brake pads are IDENTICAL part numbers.

I ended up ordering the A-spec pads anyway, since it just didn't make sense that the aftermarket pads for 2002 and 2007 (Autos, of course) were the exact same but not fit.

They fit just fine, identical to the OEM pad size, as well as the Green Stuff pads they are replacing.

They're not installed yet, so no word on the squealing. I've got to pull my rotors for resurface, or possible replacement, as the Green Stuff pads have worn them a LOT in 2 years. This will be the only turn I get out of them before min thickness, I suspect.

So, anyone wanting to put the 07-08 A-spec pads on their 2G TLs, it ought to work.

I'll take some pics when I put them on permanently

There is no difference in the A-spec and regular TL pads as far as i know, its the cars that have the Brembos that are different. So you are just putting a stock pad on.

All the press releases say the compound is different.

While 2004 TLs equipped with 6-speed manual transmissions feature powerful 4-piston Brembo front brakes, the A-SPEC kit for automatic transmission-equipped models includes high- performance brake pads. These pads substantially improve fade resistance while providing superior pedal feel and reduced stopping distance.
We'll see. They were stock pad prices ($100 for the set- front & rear) so no big loss if they are. Something tells me they'll be just like the Green Stuff in feel, except better-engineered to reduce squeal and not chew the rotors.

Though, I'm using front Rotora slotted rotors w/ Rotora pads and stock rear rotors/pads.

Agree. The Ultimate pads release tons of black brake dust. In comparison, the EBC Green pads are much cleaner, and have longer service life.

I finally finished this job- sweet Jesus, what a PITA. Nothing to do with the pads.

I took all four rotors to be turned- NEVER AGAIN. Pep Boys screwed them completely up- took flat rotors (except for pad grooves) and managed to cut a 0.012-0.018 runout in every one of them. I got my money back for that. They gave me a good discount on new fronts, so I took them, but they had runout, too. Runout so bad the pedal would pulse even at speeds as low as 20mph. Literally a slo-mo pump-pump-pump pushing back on my fit. I've never had this happen in my life.
Went to NAPA, got a set of the Ultra Premium rotors, problem solved.
I decided to do the Legend caliper upgrade while I was going to all this trouble. I've got a minor issue to work out here.

All in all, though, I'm pretty happy with the pads. Unsure on the dusting, but I suspect they will dust up like the Brembos on my '06 does (which is to say quite a bit compared to auto OEM pads). For good braking feel and overall performance (strong stop, SILENT, linear feel), I'll live with it.

We'll see.

Any updates? I figure a few months should be enough time.
