Bigger hole better flow?

Hey well I just got a K & N air filter for the stock air intake... Along with the stock air resonator delete the inlet hole was only roughly 3 to 4 inches in diameter... so.... i figured bigger hole better flow right? Now I don't know if it was the brightest idea in the world but I have a very small modding budget so I took the bottom of the air intake box and cut it in half... leaving the mounts of course and presto! roughly 6x more air to intake... and it sounds like a beast plus the kick in acceleration is extremely noticable, but i did it on a whim and was wondering if it was a bad idea and if anybody ever did anything of the sorts to avoid buying a cold air intake... I'll post pics and video as soon as i fix my camera...

^+1. besides, you still have the stock plastic piping which is also restrictive and i think turbulent as well. CAI gives you smooth piping and a filter in a colder location with more surface area.

You wont notice much with just an intake anyways, you'll need a bit more to feel something. It's more placebo if anything.
