AV6 MagnaFlow vs. Comptech

Arite, I know this topic is widely discussed, but since the day I joined this forum (last week) I been searching through numerous pages of real old posts and some of the newer ones about this topic. I found some video links that actually work, and alot that dont. I cant come to a conclusion of which exhaust is better. We all know the Magnaflow is alot cheaper, but does it sound better or worse? I read so many mixed opinions that its driving me insane and I can't figure out what I want. I want the quieter exhaust, which I believe is the Magnaflow (through all the video's i've seen). On a serious note, which is the ultimate exhaust? Please dont try to slam me and tell me to search because I read pretty much any thread that went by "Magnaflow," "Comptech Exhaust," "Exhaust," "Comptech." I know people who are gonna have the above exhausts are gonna have their own biased opinion, but lets try to make a whole big Exhaust thread with a bunch of video's for comparison. Oh, and these are the only two exhausts that im interested in, I voted out the Apexi WS2 since I want all steel piping.

If I go Magnaflow, I would pair it with its stock 14" resonator, 2.5" extension to the cat, stock headers, and a comptech icebox. Sorry for the long post, but I had to let it out lol. Thanks guys

The magnaflow's are louder than the comptechs. I have a custom magnaflow catback w/18" resonator and it is pretty loud. comptechs are kinda loud, but you can put quiet tip inserts in to muffle the sound quite a bit. Magnaflows are a better value IMO and that is why I went with them. The comptech's are probably a better overal setup though but expensive. it is up to you how much you are willing to spend.

Ah, a member here told me he has the same setup as you but with the 14" resonator and he said it isnt ridiclously loud and the cabin noise isnt all that loud unless you step on it. Im ok with some droning. You think if I went with a 22" Magnaflow resonator that would quiet it down a bit more?

Exclamation Got Both!

the magnaflows are on my 99tl w/ 18" resonator, and sound great! the comptechs are on my 98 accord coupe w/ 18"' res and they also sound great! both cars are cai/header/ex, so once you are on it, it doesn't really matter! if i had to choose, especially regarding the dollar. i would go with the magnaflow setup! they also have nicer tip accessories

It is up to you, depends on the sound you are going for. IMO I'd get the 18" resonator as it is right in the middle. gives a great deep sporty sounds, but not too much cabin drone. the cabin drone is noticeable but you get used to it pretty fast. it took me 7-10 days to adjust and now it's just normal to me. magnaflows are the best bang for the buck exhaust for our cars IMHO.

Hey do you think you can get a video clip of both? Im sure that would help out alot of members here on the board (including me )

I already have the Magnaflows ordered, but I had second thoughts about getting the comptech exhaust.. but looks like I may just stay with the mags.

sbuswell, you think with the 22" Resonator it will still sound sporty, just a little less deepness and less drone than with the 18" (figure it would be since resonator is 4" longer)?

Did ya order the av6 set up??? if so just clamp it with the u bolt and give that 14 inch resonator a try,the best judge its YOU.And if you don't like it just swap resonator, but trust me you won't.

Yea I ordered the av6 setup. The resonator is clamped not welded? Or I choose? You were my whole inspiration with this exhaust man

I was meaning that the resonator is bolted on the cat side and clamped to the Ypipe therefore if you clamp it its an easy job to remove and customize as you like.So like a said give a try to the original setup, and youl see when your gonna get your kit what i was talking about.

the 22" will still sound sporty and give pletty of sound, just not as much as the 18" or 14". So you already ordered the AV6 setup? If so do like Delirium said and test that out first and then change resonators if you don't like the sound.

Cool, im sure the Apexi's sound sweet as hell. I had a WS2 catback 4cyl 99 accord and it was amazing.

Once I get my exhaust on and get some clips, i'll compile all the sound clips I found on the net into a thread. So everyone will know how each exhaust sounds.

I like the comptechs sound. its a great sound. Plus you have the option of the quiet tip inserts which make a big difference in sound (which is nice for long trips and such) something you cant get on the other setups

I wish I coulda got the comptechs, but I cant really afford to blow that much for an exhaust. I got the AV6 Magnaflow catback for 480 shipped.. can't beat that deal

Also, I need some help guys. The exhaust is supposed to be here on Monday, and I was wondering the diameter of the piping after the cat, is it 2.25" or 2"? This is the resonator i'm planing to order to weld in there.

I trust ya, i'll give it a try.

For the 2.5" extension, its just a straight welded pipe to the cat right? The shop im going to doesnt bend pipes, so I just wanna get that cleared up before I go there.

don't be afraid when you first drive your car after you have your exhaust put on. it will be a lot louder than the silence you are used to, but like I said before it grows on you fast and becomes a little addictive.
