2003 TL-S plan
2003 TL-S plan
Heya, been lurking/learning for a while and decided to post up a "plan" for my TL-S. She has 117k on her and runs just fine. Pretty standard stuff it seems from the threads I have read, so here goes.
Body is simple just the A-Spec body kit.
Brakes are planned to be legend swap with cross drilled rotors and braided lines, not slotted since seems the rotor wash noise gets annoying.
Wheels will go up one to 18's and go wide, no particular style set upon yet. Don't mind rolling fenders if needed but about it for body work, and rather not camber the wheels in, I like maximum contact with the ground.
Suspension is where I have some issues. I want to lower it, maybe 2" roughly. Not sure I can get a full coilover cost wise or that I will ever need the adjustments to warrant one. Was thinking just some coil sleeves and stock struts as I didn't mind the stock feel, but never ridden it with and drop. Like the vertical adjustment idea so was passing over straight lowering springs. Does't have to be this one but something like it. If had to change struts to then maybe tokico bluies.
4515.01 Ground Control Coilover Sleeves - 0" to 3" drop for at Andy's Auto Sport
Add a cat-back exhaust and header, CAI, and I might be done. Had just started reading about cam and head swaps, but not fully versed on it yet so leaving that out. Uh, and while not a popular choice from some threads I want to stay Auto, and thinking of the Accord Auto swap from a 06 iirc.
The TL will be an everyday/family ride with a mix of interstate and city driving. It isn't ever expected to touch the track or race anywhere except the occasional push on the interstate if we are running late or whatever excuse I can come up with.
Any noticeable problem? Or other suggestions on things I missed?

Looks like you have done some research, nice job. As far as lowering two inches I would look at springs if your going to stay with stock struts and I would suggest you replace them since you are at 117k miles they are more than likely worn out. Coilovers might end up being cheaper if you have to replace both. Also not many manufactures make cat back exhaust for the tl's anymore. I have a set of comptech axle back mufflers from my tl for sale if your interested.

Bad struts
That was my worry, cause I do need new struts. By having to do both springs and struts at the same time I am pretty close to decent coil over range. Could do the H&R Springs with Tokico but lose vertical adjustment. I am really not sure I would ever need it since that combo has been done for a long time, but fine tuning height to tire/wheel combo would be ideal. Reading reviews on popular coilovers now.
Have no experience doing it, so the short answer is no idea. But there is something to be said about having it if you need it over not having it if or when you do. Looking at the Tein street basis and street advance the difference is not so large in cost to perhaps legitimize the extra cost for the dampening feature.
Welcome Big Ak !!!
Yeah, modding the 2nd Gen TL's usually follows the same basics which are described and shown on this forum. Lip kit, tint, rims, suspension, brakes, intake and exhaust.
It's always best to make sure that your TL's tranny & drivetrain are in top notch condition and PM up to date before starting into modding. Have fun, keep us posted with pics and details of your TL's upgrading project.
Check out Stephen00TL's past threads for lots of pics and his added mods to the 2000 TL.
Apparently he has sold the car, but his pride still lives on ...... progressing to the 3rd Gen's and the "6 speed" stick for more driving pleasure.

I took it out to do suspension and left it out for the first 200 miles I drove on koni shocks. Adjusted the shocks last night, put the seat back in, and installed a tanabe hyper medallion exhaust. The seats on the cl are a lot harder to get in and out than the tl's.
I am leaning toward the advance set. Just need approval from the boss, luckily she loves the car as well. Would love to get the coils, brakes, and ss lines done at once. Saving all the pennies I find on the street now.
Dug out an old article on the CL probably been seen plenty of times as it is 10 years old but could always SC it for extra punch.

CL looks really clean paint and bodywise, really good find.
