Unhappy Winshild smashed by a brick

Man, a sad thing happened last night..
Last night, couple friends and I went out for a night out. When i return to my car to drive it home at around 11 PM, this is the exact words that i heard from some of my friends.

A) Man, this car got f***ed up.
B) oh yeah... f***
C) Hey, wait a minute, isn't that Behnam's car?
A) Nah... oh $#!t, yeah it is..

Here i come walking up the my car, and i see a big @$$ whole in my winshild. I wasn't upset at all, i kept it cool because i didn't want to ruin the good night we were having. I just hoped that i wouldn't find any scratches on my car, because now you see that would make me shed a couple zillion tears, and nah, you wouldn't want to see me cry. Trust me So, what should I do? What do you guys think i should do? Should i let the dealership change the winshild, or should i go with a small private place? (I am a cheapy, so the cheapest option por favor) Any feed back would be appriciated.

Damn that sucks big time! You could go to the dealer but IMHO they are not experts in changing windshields. You may want to find a Auto Glass shop in your area. These guys buy winshields in bulk so they may give you a better price. Ask if they accept insurance claims at the same time...that'll save you some change.
Good luck on the repair!

Claim insurance if you can... SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THAT!!!

Gee... anyways, you can't be a cheapy on this one... unless you want to live with some annoying wind noise everytime when you drive in the future...

So, get somebody do the job right..

First, you should try to go through insurance. If, for whatever reason, it isn't covered, you should go direct to a windshield repair service. It's my understanding that the dealers use them, so you would be cutting out the middleman. The money-saving decision (at least when I replaced the windshield on my BMW) was whether you want OEM glass, or aftermarket (PPG brand) glass. On my BMW, I went with aftermarket glass and saved a couple hundred bucks.

I'd call your insurance. Most of the insurance companies I've used have had a special rider or section of the contract for glass and they'd charge a $5/mo fee that included deductablefree glass repair. Also, I'd make sure that when the brick went through the window that it didn't collide with something else in the car like the console, or a seat and mess that up....

Do NOT go to the dealership. I had to replace the windshield on my old car a few years ago and the quote from the dealer was ridiculous.

I found a glass shop in the yellow pages and they did an excellent job for a fraction of the price. Plus, they come to YOU...

Most insurance companies will cover you for a broken glass. When my mother leased a buick century, a truck on the highway shot up a small boulder(pebble), and cracked the windsheild. It started to spiderweb really bad so we called the insurance and they said no probs and fixed it without upping the premium. She has Geico. Also the company that Geico used came to our house and did the whole job there. No wind noise and solis seal. it also came with a tint strip, something the original did not have. Hope this helps.

Damn, sorry to hear about that but definitely go to the insurance.
BTW, go to a local glass/windshield/auto shop and ask. Don't go to the dealer because they will rip you off big time.

I have geico with 1000 deductable

I called Geico, and they told me that if its gonna be less than $1000 they can't help me out, so they can't help me out :-(. I called this other company called Safelite and they said that they will do the job for $350. Geico said they would be able to help me out and do the job for free if the crack was less than 6 inches long, but, its a lot bigger than that. Its all across my winshild. So, i'll get it fixed tomorrow by that other company. Bad time for this to happen, i'm really short in cash.

Ps. I'm only 17, and I have to pay for everything myself. I even bought the car myself, but my business was duing much better before, now, its not so good .

(Thank you for your replies.)

$350 still sounds too high. When I had it replaced on my old car ('93 Honda Accord) I can't remember the exact amount but it was less than $200 - and again, excellent job.

Too bad I can't remember the name of the shop, but I'd look in the yellow pages under "Glass" and "Window."

Ouch man sorry to hear that. Dont know what I would do or how I would react if I was in your place, but I know I would not be as calm as you were. I would probably need a Sedative to calm me down. What can you do, there are alot of jealous, inconsiderate and worthless pieces of scum out there not worth the air they waste when they breathe.

One thing, if you can swing it try to get the OEM glass. I replaced a side window in my old Accord after some punk kids broke my window. Damn lowlifes decided to drive around my neighborhood at night the one night I left my car on the street instead of in my driveway. All told they hit at least 3-4 cars. Went for my rear doors window as well, but apparantly missed and hit my door denting and chipping the paint. Anywayz I went to safelite as they were the only place open on that day and they used the glass they had in stock which was non OEM. It was a close fit, but not a perfect one. The replacement didnt curve as much as the OEM and would pinch the upper rubber molding of the door which looked hideous. And being that the glass was just not a 100% match, there was nothing I could do about it.

Something you can also ask your insurance is to cover the price of a detailer to get all of the glass out of the inside of your car. Even if you use a shop vac you may not get all of the pieces. When my sister's back window was smashed State Farm paid for a detailing shop to take care of the inside.

I can't believe there are people out there with insurance who have to pay for glass replacement. My insurance (in MA) has no-deductible glass replacement. No limit and no surcharge either. My wife has had three windshields replaced in the last three years, and it hasn't cost me a thing. The glass replacement company even comes to you and replaces with OEM glass. I pay something like $20 a year for the coverage. If you don't have this coverage, look into it and see how much it would cost. I highly recommend it.

Unhappy Okay, situation changed.. Found where the brick landed :-(

The brick landed on my roof. I couldn't see it before. But this afternoon, i was looking, then i noticed it. My roof is totally messed up. I didn't notice it before. I am really upset now. The winshild was fine I could get that fixed, but the body of my car thats different. thats personal. Just because some punks wanted to have a good laugh... man, that's just wrong.

How would they go about fixing my roof. Is that plus the winshild gonna get over $1000 bucks?

Man...... Not good.....
The roof is almost non-repairable......
I am not sure how bad it is...but if you have to replace the roof....it's more than $1500 for sure....
The roof is $309.37...but it's lot of labor to replace the roof....
I hope it's fixable......
Man....
It keeps going bad and bad.....
BTW is sun roof OK????

Sun roof

The sunroof is fine.. Its not hurt at all thank god. If it was only the winshild, i would have had my car back to normal by now. But since its the roof too, it added another $1200 to the bill.. Which is pretty high for me. I'm gonna hold of on the repair until i get the cash. It totally sucks because i worked so hard to buy this car, because i love it so much.. and i was making good money before, but i wasn't expecting this to happen.

Thanks for all your help guys.. It makes me feel so good that there are some people supportive of me.. (My friends were streight out laughing at the car dude..)

Sorry for the bad luck dude.... With there being an additional $1200 in damage, I'd go to the insurance company and pay your comprehensive deductable and get everything taken care of... I'm not sure what you're deductable is, if it's 1k then I'd not report it, but if it's a standard $250 or something I would....

Damn!

If I were you, I'd take a brick to the next ricey civic, I see.

That'll help relieve my frustration if that happened.

Sometimes you can ask the glass company for a cash price for a windshield which is normally a lot less than the price your insurance company would pay. You could probably file both of these incidents on the same claim and have just 1 deductible. Good luck!!
