I'd like to know where in Orange County, California I can get a quality tint job. My TL-S is Black. Also is it legal to tint the front side windows in California. I've heard conflicting stories on this.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

You can try Zippo's in NJ-there are a few of them. They do quality work.

Don't know a shop in the O.C.(hopefuly another member can help) but I can tell you in California you can only legally tint the rear doors and back windshield of your car. The exception to this rule is with a doctor's note and then you can only tint the front side doors to 70%.....just remember the lower the % the darker the tint.
EXAMPLE: limo tint is = to 5% tint
Impo I don't like the look of tinting half the car. So when I get my TL-S it will get 35% tint on all four doors and back...it's illegal but not too dark to draw to much attention from local police or C.H.P.
P.S. when you do fine a shop ask to see the work they have done. There should be a photo album at the facility...Make sure they back there work with a guarantee.

go to Xlent Tint in so. cal. I think its on la palma in the city of orange. i THINK. im not too sure though. They did a GREAT job on my car though. a lil bit pricey but the perfection in their job makes up for it. i think i paid 2 bills for titanium tint for all 4 windows and back.

Go to Auto Image on Rt. 18 South in East Brunswick NJ. They charge a little more than other places, but I personally think they do a better job and they offer a warranty on the tint job. I got 3 cars in my family tinted at that place and I'm going to get my Type S tinted there too when I get a chance. Good luck with the car.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I had my accord tinted and everything was perfect except the top strip on the rear. The guy told me there's nothing he can do about that. I think that is BS, since I've seen other accord done with no problems. Well, now I have the TLS and I also have that strip in the rear windshield and I need a shop to knows how to overcome the bubbles. Thanks for all your reply, but I wish I can find somewhere that is near in the northern jersey area.

Just ahve my window tinr last week. I use the titanium tine film. I went to a shop name Pro Tint in Temple City, Ca. I also ask the owner about the bubble near the rear defrost area. Well, he said for the rear window, he needs to do some kind of acid wash. So that the film will stick and no bubble. And it won't hurt the radio reception function. When you went to the tint plaace, make sure the shop do this wash. Or the tint will comes out ugly.

Usually the tint shop will give you a reference to see how dark the tint is. My shop shows me the difference between the "dye film" and "titanium film" with the same tint ratio. It also tells me which one is accepted by the police agency and which isn't. Just make sure your shop do the acid wash and no bubble in the rear window.

$195 total. 35% tint at the back, 10% tint at the front. Took about 1 1/2 hour. They do a great job. You need to call and make an appointment though. Talk to Jeff, he is the owner I believe.

I post this in the TL forum. I might as well post it here.
Got this from the CHP website:
It is legal to tint your front's driver and passenger's window:
Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
1.The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
2.If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.
It means after 1/1999. It is legal to tint your front window. You just need those clear one.

I think the dark interior definitely helps to make the tint look darker. I have the ebony interior now and a 35% tint. The tint definitely looks darker than on my '00 TL, which had the beige interior.

As for the a good tint shop in Orange County, I would recommend the Tint Pro's in Huntington Beach, CA. They know what they are doing and they have a warrenty for there work.
Tip: if you look at the rear window on the top you'll see alot of little dots, make sure not to put any tint on those dots cause it would look really ugly.....

Mugenua,
Sure you can put tint on those dots area. The shop just need to do a wash-"acid wash". I have this done and it looks great. Some shops didn't know how to do it and they just you can't put in on. It is because I had a friend had an older model TL. I asked him why he just tint part of the rear window. He said his shop said can't put any tint on there. So, when i went to my tint shop. I specifically ask them about it. Well, the owner said, no many tint shop know how to do the acid wash. Just ask the shop, it should know.

i have 35% LUMAR platinum tint all around and the lower you go the darker it is. it is the degree of light transmission.
i like the tint, i wonder how i ever lived without it, but i think the shop that did my work did a crappy job. one window has superficial scratches on the film and i can see specks of dust under it. it is few and far between but i already replaced two pieces of tint because they bubbled at the lower corners (under warranty of course).
i am wishing that i had done it at another shop even though this is the place where my friend got his done and it looked pristine.

I have mine done at "A Terrific Tint" at Mission Viejo, near orange county. I did some research before I went and asked many questions. They use computer to cut films and use Llumar film only(one of the best). Life time warrenty on film and bubble-free looking. The owner is Jeff, a great guy. I am very happy with their work.
Check out their web page, I got a discount by printing out the web discount page. http://www.aterrifictint.com/directions.shtml

BTW, Llumar has a certificate to prove that their 85% tint in front window is CA law compliant. The owner give me the certificate with shop info on it and let me carry it in the car.
I did the whole rear window - no AM reception problem, and they do a special wash on rear window before do the dot matrix part.

I've never had my car tinted except for my wife's new van which was tinted when purchased a year ago. After picking up the van from the dealership, we were told not to use windex on the inside windows as this would damage the tint job. Is that true? What would you use to clean the inside of the tinted windows?
