Window trim tape replacement

Can the job be done at home?

I got a slight runaround job when I brought up the warranty work with my dealer, IMO.

I would rather avoid the hassle of the two back and forth hour trips to my dealer to get this done.

So I was wondering what I would have to do to repair the trim. Any special tools to disassemble the doors? What holds the tape to the trim....glue, static, etc...?

Appreciate the replies!

WHAT?? runaround @ the dealership for friggin window tape?....wow that sucks....my car is going in soon for the same thing....tape is like bubbling and ripping off.....piece of shit....dude- if you have on your car that isn't too serious....(looking @ your signature, you don't) then they should fix ANYTHING that's wrong...big or small.

tell em to fix it, i wouldn't touch it...But....in my case, my dealership has new TL loaners, so it's a pleasure trip....if it's a hassle for you, then i don't know how to do it yourself.....but if you don't mind going, go and make them fix anything you want. -shawn

I just had mine done. the driver side all along the window fram was being stretched off it looked like. My dealer said it is a little difficult to do since they had to work with an outside vendor. I was a little worried to have it done cause i didnt want it to look even worse but it came home looking perfect. Just tell them its a warrenty item and to fix it.

I'm not sure whether you're talking about the weather stripping or not; most people have the paint/sticker that outlines the window on the door itself start bubbling off the metal.
Mine is, and I know a lot of other people has too.

Yep... have that issue too (99)... Feels sort of 'crunchy' now where it's rippled. My arm hits it while drying the car and feels and sounds like small pieces are going to come off with the brush of my arm.
