Will this key work for our TL? PIX

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1873139924
This key is made for the new 2003 Honda Accord. Do you guys think it will work for my 2002 TL-S? I'm thinking it should, no reason for it not to work, right?

even though I like the idea of the remote on the key, i like the looks of the TL-S remote better, honda should have done better on the key remote design

Actually I've been curious about this ever since I saw a pic of it...but I wonder if it employs the same security chip that the Acura cars use...if it does...should work.

Your best bet is to contact your dealer, talk to someone who knows their stuff... and ask them about the security chip. I do not know off hand if Honda and Acura use the same security chip in their keys.... so you will need to find that out.....

word... that would be pretty cool. then u could have that remote for the basic keyless functions and the people that use the stock remote for the remote start could use a remote designed for it instead.

Actually, Honda began using a new type of "key" in the 2003 Accords as you can see in this pic below. You see how it's cut on both sides yet it leaves a slim edge at the center. More differences you can see like the lack of grooves.

IMO, the chip is probably carriedover technology so it "may" have worked. But unless you modifying the old key with this, you guys are out of luck

Hell, maybe the lock cylinders can be changed

I like the new key since it likes a BMW key and one less to carry. Hope that the new key is as good as the BMW key.

update!!!

Great news everyone!!!! This key will work for our TL's.
The new 2003 Honda Accord key uses the same remote FCC and the same security chip inside the key.
The new Accord part # is:
Honda Part # : 72147-S0K-A11
FCC : E4EG8D-444H-A
Look at the back of our TL remotes, it also says:
FCC: E4EG8D-444H-A
And they also come with Memory 1 and Memory 2.
Any honda or acura dealers can cut the key for you. Just make sure you bring along a spare. They need to throw both keys into a machine and it will copy the security chip code over. And as for programming the remote, anyone can do it. You can actually do a search in the Forums. Hope the new 2004 TL's comes already in one piece.

Well, I'm sure Honda will start putting these into their future Acura vehicles as well.

Was it a Honda or Acura dealer that made the confirmation?

Remotes might be the same, but the key blank does not have the center groove.

I'm not a key expert, but I have never seen a machine cut a center groove before.

No I'm pretty sure it won't work. The new Accord keys are laser cut like BMW's.

I tried out this key while on a test drive in a 2003 V6 ACcord sdn w/sales person inside the car.

It's so awesome, this key has a transponder built-in and has rolling code as well as built in remote of course.

Thing is, key is CUT differently!!! I really pray that ACURA becomes more than BMW and shuns them down b/c, Lexus is still no BMW or Mercedes in terms of function but only in terms of prestige.

Acura isn't prestigious as of yet, well OKAY, the MDX and Type-S models (TL-S, CL-S, RSX-S) are prestigious.

The Japanese realy NEED to hurry up and conquer the Germans in the luxury car game. it'd be nice to see AWD TL's or CL-s b/c, the age old debate of FWD vs. RWD will then vanish.

You have to know that Honda do not make these remotes. It's done by Omron Corp. in Japan. I can't tell you if it will work for TLs or not, but i can tell you that they both broadcast the same carrier freq. of 307.9 MHz. The same FCC number just represent that they are using the same chip to Lock/Unlock/Trunk/Panic, that's it, nothing more. The rest is done by electronics in the car...for that part, we don't know if they are the same or not.

Then you have the problem with key lenght, width and thickness, is anyone curtain that it fits.

And last is the transponder...honda probably kept it the same, no need to fix somthing that aint broke.

The thing i can tell you is that, the new key Lock/Unlock/Trunk/Panic buttons will work. Not sure if it will open doors or turn on engine or not

That sucks. It will still mean we have to carry two items
......a remote that looks like a key, and the actual car key itself.

"If" the doesn't open the doors or turn on the engine..and you REALLY REALLY want the new key...you "could possiblly" swap out the lock.

And "just if" the transponder in the key "are different" you could get a transponder bypass...about $20-$40. That's what they use for remote starts, when you don't have your key in the car and your able to turn on the car.

It "may" work, just cut off the acutual key part and solder/weld on our key.... Might work??!?!?!? Don't know how the transponder will react.

what is it exactly that u guys like about this key? That it has built in immobilizer and rolls code everytime u unlock and lock like Mercedes? I think it has good features but it is probably pretty fattt.... I like those Passat/BMW Keys that lock open like a swiss army knife when u press a button.
